Thursady (3-30-06) i went to PR to buy a Tuned Pipe for my HPI RS4 Evo3 w/ a .15 engine. I call them up and explain to them what i need, and the guy said yea i got it. So i crusie up there to get the part, come back, and it is wrong. So i call them up and explain to them the problem. And he says bring it back up. so i'm game, take it back and get another that he says will work with (i quote) "no problems what so ever". So i bring it home and it is to short. so i take back up to Pit Row and the guy says "we are in a hobby, you have to retrofit parts to work." so i asked him if he would be willing to retrofit brakes or exhuast on his personal car, no you want the direct fit part. So the jerk owner of the store tells me "I am not giving your money back" so i get a little mouthy and ask him how he stays in business. And i told him that i am going to call everyone of his vendors and explain to them that their "auth. dealers" are a-holes. Tamiya, DuraTrax, Dynamite, and Venom all told me that they would call him about the situation and tell him that they will not supply parts to him if that is how he treats his customers.
so on my way out of the shop i tapped this BIG shelf, almost a wall, and a modle falls (still in box) and he claims that i punched him......
what a a hole....
i will never spend another .01 there....
looks like HobbyTown and House of Hobbies for local parts, and if not mail order...
AND TO TAKE IT ONE STEP FUTHER
when i was there yesterday some guy what in there with a JR radio that he just bought and he took the set home and installed the setup in his T-Maxx and the throttle servo went out on him.... not the streeting! the throttle what kind of pressure could a throttle servo be under to make it go out. Plus the guy had a servo saver on it and his steering. and the owner of the shop did not want to send in the servo for maint. or warranty problems.....
do not shop here...

Sometimes, you do have to do a little modification when fitting aftermarket parts to a car. Even real cars. You should have taken your car with you if there was any doubts, then you could have test fit the new pipe the first time and if not satisfied, don't buy it. About the servo, usually this can happen if the endpoints are not set correctly. I have had this happen. If they dont want to send them in, they don't have to. As long as the customer still has the reciept, he can send them to JR/Horizon and get them repaired for free.

I agree with gramdegixxer on taking the car with you when you go in, but still that is no reason for the guy to be an a hole. customer service is everything i drive past my lhs to get to another shop that is 4x further away from my house just for the service.

That means that they really don't deserve your business!!!! This hobby is suppose to about learning, fun times, and helping each other out. When a LHS behaves like that, that just says to stay away from them and take you $100's to another hobby store.

People (myself included) spend thousands of $$ at hobby stores...you would think they would be falling over themselves to please customers. Especially ones who come in there multiple times per week. But many Hobby stores are aholes.
I had a bad encounter at a lhs here in Louisville, Ky. The store is named scale Reproductions so never go there either!!!

Again i drive 4x further then my nearest lhs, to get to anther one, just for the service, I drive right by the first one. Its amazing what good service will do.

oh absolutely- a smile and thanks for your time, or something to that effect is all most people need i think. but some lhs owners seem to forget that

I am in the exact same boat as tq racing. I drive 45 minutes for the service instead of the 2 shops that are 10 minutes away.

"Tapped." LOL. You punched it, you know you did. :D
You should never EVER do anything that displays anger, this just gives them something to use against you, especially any form of punching, kicking, hollering, or "tapping."
I am so flippin' fed up with hobby shops. I do my best to support them but whenever I go to get parts, "They're on order, be in Wednesday, sorry guy." I come in Wednesday, "Sorry, they'll be in tomorrow." I come in "tomorrow" and there's a flippin' sign on the door at 3 in the afternoon that says "out to lunch, be back at 4:30." Took me a 10 days to get a part from them. All this time I could have ordered it online and had it here in 3 days.
Then there's the "advice." I was talking to the owner, who owns and flies a BCX, about a flybar mod, he says "gee I don't know how you're going to get those weights off," an I'm like what the heck, you slide the rubber in and off they come, no tools or anything . . . most of the time he tells people stuff and has no clue at all what he's saying. Heard him tell someone some **really** bad advice on how to tune an engine. A week later I'm standing there (with said 10-day-arrival part!) and in comes the person who bought this engine, she (yes, she) was standing there waiting in line, spinning the flywheel over and over, I could tell the engine had a broken con rod.
I try to be sympathetic, spent years at this trying to support the LHS's, I know "how it is" with goods and services, but a lot of these guys are just plain dumb or worse yet, apathetic. I'm going back to online sales for good.

It's unfortunate you had an experience like this. I'm really surprised as I am from the Kenwood, Oh area and I have know the owner for over 10 years. The owner of this store is the most knowledgeable person in the area. This store has been in business for over 20 years and has served the area well. I would take this person's reaction with a grain of salt and if you are reading this thread this store is worth taking the time to shop at. You can't keep everyone happy.

Good Point- Whenever I have had issues I've brought my car into the hobby shop. They are more than happy to help. You can't get that from a online-store.

Every hobby shop I have ever dealt with has stated that "All warranty claims are handled by the manufacturer" which means the shop does NOT have to d anything as far as this bad servo. Send it into JR and they will handle it.
As far as the shop owner goes, for every guy like you that demands perfection and whines when you don't get it, we get a hundred great costumers. We can't please everybody simply because there are a few people in this world that feel that any service you give then is never good enough.
Do you really believe that his vender's are going to cut him off just because you had a bad experience?

Its great that your letting people know about this (insert bad word here)
I had a similar problem with a shop here in australia and after I had finished my warpath The shop no longer sells RC products and ALOT of people took their buisness elsewere who arent even in the hobby.
Its a reall shame that there is this type of personality in the trade It gives RC a bad name all round and the sooner we eliminate these "special few" then the hobby might actually be able to come back to the gloy days of yesteryear.
