What can I use to back candy purple? Need to paint a body and trying to use up some stuff that's sitting around. White, Silver? I know I saw a magazine with an article on this recently but cant find it now.

I'd say that you could use either white or silver, even black.
It's really going to depend on what look you want the purple to have when you're done.
White would make the purple brighter, more vibrant. Silver would/could give the final finish an irridescent look (how much depends on how many coats of purple are applied) Black would give the purple a darker, deeper color.

Candy paints are transparent, so whatever color you choose to back it with is going to show through. I suggest experimenting on a scrap piece of plastic to get the color your happy with.

I went with lots of layers of the candy purple backed by silver. Turned out nice and deep with a really nice color.
