Hi, after 5 years in storage I want to make it run in my backyard. I'm looking for batteries that would give me long run-times, since I won't race it. Couple of questions:

1. Are Sanyo 2400 worth the extra money, since they cost 3 times more than a Duratrax 1500 ($53 vs. $16). How long they last (Losi XX w/ stock motor)?

2. Radio Shack has some 3000 NiMH for about $28. Are they any good, if you're not racing? I notice here in the board some resistance toward these battteries, is it just because of their weaker "punch" or are there any hidden issues??

3. What charger should I buy to use those NiMH? I have only a timed charger (hobbico 900).

4. What are the good on=line stores now, besides TowerHobbies. Those I used to buy from closed down. WHo sells cheap (non-matched) batteries? I don't have a local hobby shop, so it has to be online.

Thanks,

after 5 years away I really don't know my choices.

Try www.integy.com (http://www.integy.com) They have all kinds of 2400 matched packs at very reasonable prices. Any of the 2400 Sanyo batteries will
give good power & durability as long as you take reasonable care of them. I would buy any that are matched, as they will charge better, run better, & be more durable due to the even charging across all the cells. The other real low priced packs you mentioned aren't matched & won't last as long. It depends on how much money you have, & what level you want to run at though. Hope this helps. ;)

your timed charger will charge the NiMHs fine, but it would be easy to ruin them. overcharging them can destroy them in a hurry. Nicads are a little more durable. But the NiMHs can be charged 3 times in the same day with no ill effects. The 2400s will give you about 50% more run time, theoretically, although it will probably be a little more than that, and they will have more power while running.

matched cells will last longer, but I am not sure it is worth it for backyard bashing. That is something you have to decide for yourself. I would invest slowly until you are sure it is something you are going to keep doing.

to charge nimhs you will need a new specail charger designed to charge them up to full other wise you might as well just have 2400s
