I'm buying a comm lathe and I was wondering what the optimum diameter would be??? should I put new bushings in??? whats the best Way to shim the motor??? Thanks in advance for any help... :)

The optimum diameter is as big as you can get it, and still be perfectly round. You don't lathe a comm to make it smaller ! You do this to make it ROUND. That is why it is sometimes called 'truing' your comm.

Put the motor back together exactly as it came apart. Use the original shims. Make sure the arm sits naturally centered in the magentic field.
