I don't get it, whats the diff with matched and unmatched battery packs? How can you tell if they are unmatched and matched packs. Which one is better to have and why do you think so?

Matched cells are much better than unmatched for a couple reasons.
One: Matched cells are cycled and have had special things done to them before they are bought from u. Is what they do is make sure all the cells "MATCH" each other. All 6 0r 7 or how ever many Cells are almost exactly the same.
Two: Matched cells usually make your Car run faster nad u also get better run times.
You can tell the difference because Matched cells have numbers on them. Like on a motor the motors have their Dyno numbers, batteries have their numbers on them.

That is my Explanation of matched Batteries.

The best thing about matched cells are the higher voltage they produce and the fact that they all have the same run time. That means you will have almost full power until it dumps. But when it dumps it won't move. They don't slow down the deeper they get into their run.

They're right, BadRacer, the big advantage of matched cells are that you can look for the numbers you want before you buy them, & from a reputable matcher(I consider Lightspeed to be a good one) you can count on those numbers to be accurate. With stock motors, it's important to have as much voltage (& low resistance) as you can get, so matched packs give you the chance to find what you need. With unmnatched ones, there's no guarantee the cells in it are very good(though some can be). Infact, from the big companies, their unmatched stick packs are generally made from the cells that weren't good enough for their matched packs, so it's much more of a crapshoot..... http://www.rccaraction.com/ubb/smile.gif

When you buy a set of matched cells, all the cells in the box or bag will very similar, if not identical, ratings as far as run time in seconds, amp rating, volt rating, and some other numbers. Most people rely on the amp rating, usually around 5 amps, and the run time. Generally, you'll get amp number of output for the printed run time. an example would be 5 amps for 386 seconds.
The unmatched cells are probably just as good of quality but they didn't meet the minimum performance standard at the factory or, they were mass produced with the intent not to be checked. I have had a few batteries that were just as good as my matched sets for performance but getting one of these batteries is rare.
You should be able to run fine with a $50 matched set. You'll just need to assemble the pack. Use Deans connectors to connect the cells. I've found they work the best.
Sorry for the novel. I hope this helps.

One more stupid question, to what i am seeing the matched packs have to be put together? Or can they also be assembled?

Yes, most matched packs are unassembled initially. To assemble one, you'll need a good soldering iron(at least 45Watts), some battery bars(the Tulsa shops keep plenty of them from Deans & Lightspeed), some wire(red & black, or other colors if you want), whatever kind of connector you use, & a battery building jig(there are two types, one for side-by-side or saddle packs, & one for stick packs)..... http://www.rccaraction.com/ubb/smile.gif

Make sure you use at least 12 gauge silicone wire from a hobby store not wire from Radio Shack or any place else like that.

Matched batts are also "zapped" before comming to u giving you more voltage.
