just built my first nimh battery. Its a trinity team 3000 6-cell. However it seems that i have lost the sheet that tells you how to care for them. Can you guys just give me some tips on 3000s?

Charge them at 3.5 amps, with no more than a .02v peak detection. Discharge them at 20-25 amps.

Remember to store them in a "partially discharged" state. What I do is give them a complete charge, then discharge them for 100 seconds at 25 amps.

Im not that intelligant when it comes to complicated matters :D so when you say .02v i have no idea what that is. sorry if this doesnt help but im using an intellipeak mini pulse.

Ni-MH .LINEAR CHARGING MODE. Use this mode for charging Sub-C size Ni-MH batteries at 4.0-5.5 amps with the trickle charge turned OFF.
Ni-MH .VOLTAGE THRESHOLD. This is the most important setting for Ni-MH batteries, as too-high a setting will easily overheat and damage the batteries. set the delta-peak to
4 mV/cell.
Ni-MH .DISCHARGING. Do NOT deep-discharge Ni-MH batteries (No discharge trays, resistors, or light bulbs).

When a battery charges, a "peak detection" charger will determine the point at which the voltage of the battery has "peaked", and started to fall back a little. It is at this point the battery is fully charged.

Typically, a charger without a user-defined peak detection drop (aka loop back) will use preset .05v for peak detection drop. What this means is the charger will shut down whenever the pack voltage drops .05v from it's maximum (peak) charge.

e.g. the voltage of the pack (after 30 mins or so charging) is 9.25v. The charger will wait until the voltage has dropped to 9.20v before shutting off.

As I mentioned, this .05v is too high a detection loop back for NiMH. This will overcharge them, so .02v is ideal. This is why you need a charger where you can set the loop back, or at least a charger that has a "NiMH" setting. Most newer chargers will have this.

yo Insanity (Phish)..... gotta love the RCCA board... quick replies... and lots of different opinions....

about charging... i don't think you have an adjustable Delta-Peak on your charger.... i haven't used an intellipeak... so i don't know if you "flick" a switch to adjust the peak detection for ni-mh cells or what... anywhos... if there is such a setting, make sure it is set to ni-mh.....

amp rate... ohhh boy... everybody has a different opinion on this one... 3.5 amps would take years on a 3000 pack, so i have always charged mine at 5 amps (and then it still takes forever... LOL)... i think most people in the industry recommend 4 amps... but i have seen certain short Losi drivers charge ni-mh cells at over 7 amps.. (but then he doesn't have to pay for his cells... LOL)

discharge- don't drive your car until it won't move anymore... stop when it FIRST starts to slow down... your cells may be damaged if you take the voltage lower than that... and if you race, there is no need to use a dis-charge device of any type on your cells.... that's one of the selling points of Ni-mh cells... no memory build up...

storage- they need to be stored with about a half charge in them.... and don't let them sit for over a month without running them at least once...

as always... peace out... :)

The Intellipeak "figures out" the battery chemistry after you plug it in.

thanks stern, it does kick ***** here campared to old rcads. About 10 times more people, and 10 times faster replies. plus no b*tchy admins :D or ignorant spammers (gag jase gag)

The deal with my name is that the name i usually use (insanity) wasnt working. And at my track the only food i consider edible are the candy swedishfish. I mean, it doesnt have air conditioning or anything and all the candybars and food are sitting out in 80-90 degree weather. Buy a candybar and you get a melted piece of choclate. When it starts geting late, whether it be im staying late or im in the last qualifier, i need some sugar to keep me up. so the only thing i consier half edible ar swedishfish. :D
