Has anyone upgraded their TC3 (or other 4wds) with the one way diff?
What do you think? Worth the time/money? Notice an improvement?

Oh yes, I've been using the one-ways extensively lately, & under the right conditions, they are pretty awesome. :D However, when using them, you MUST learn to change the way you drive, & you MUST be running on a good high-traction surface. If your track is slippery, the one-ways will make your car EXTREMELY difficult(if not impossible) to drive, it disables your front brakes & gives the car considerably more aggressive steering. The trick to driving with them is you have to stay off the brakes & learn to roll through corners, as long as you have enough grip, it will wrok, & you'll carry more speed through corners. If you want to maximize the effect, you may also want to try the shaft mounted one-way that GPM makes(that's why I mentioned them in the plural, I use a dual setup, the GPM shaft one-way with the AE one-way up front), & in fact the GPM one may be better to start with, since its effect is more mild than the front or dual set up..... :)

To be honest, I rarely rely on braking. I set my drag brake and just let up on the throttle to slow down coming into corners.
Which leads to the question: How does the one-way diff affect drag braking?

Drag brake would be bad. It would most likely make your car spin out every time you let off throttle in a corner. As I said, one-ways disable the front brakes, & at speed, using only the rear brakes is too much to ask of the car(you need all 4 tires to maintain traction if you have to use brakes, only 2 will be overwhelmed). Using the one-ways really needs you to completely avoid using any brakes, at least until the race is over.....

I agree with Grizzbod about being careful with braking, but I think that if you just set up your ESC for mild braking, you can still use breaking with precision, as long as you avoid using it together with steering input. You will have to do without dragbrakes though. I found that with the one-way installed, my driving style becomes more like "cruising" along the track Too agressive inputs will send you to the boards. You need to find a good line and keep floating aroung the track, much less aggressive than when using the diff. On carpet tracks the one way constantly gives me faster laptimes though. I would go for it !

So at SoCal rc raceway...Should I go with a one-way or no? I have a Pan car...will a touring with a one way behave like a pan car?

Not sure, don't know what kind of grip SoCal's surface has. If you're positive that your tires can keep you planted, then it may be worth a try. Try asking around, surely some of the other racers there have tried it, & perhaps some are still using them.... :)
