View Full Version : Question About Novak Millennium....
I have a few packs that are sanyo 2400's but the guy I bought them from assembled them as stick packs (2 rows of 3 cells). Anyway, the Millennium's manual said not to charge packs like that. WHY?? I plan to buy better cells for racing, but I would like to use these for now. Any info would be helpful... thanks

Not sure, I didn''t notice anything in the Millenium's manual about that, but I've seen plenty of people charging stick packs with one & I haven't noticed any problems..... :)

Are you sure you're reading it right? I can't imagine the instructions suggest you can't charge the very batteries for which the charger was designed...

Charging stick packs on the Novak is fine.. Why it wouldnt be is beyond me!!!! No different than charging saddle packs.
By stick packs I mean a pack that is assembled like this

rather than the other way like this

I let a guy at the track the other night charge my packs with his peak charger, I assume everything is still alright. So as long as it will not hurt the charger until I can get some new packs it's fine.
thanks for the help guys!

Hey, I found a .pdf manual on teamnovak.com.... this is what it says..
"Do not charge battrty packs connected in parallel Batterys will be damaged.
And here is a link to the .pdf so you can look and see if my understanding is just off or something.

That means not to charge two packs that are connected to each other in parallel.
Stick packs are 6 cells wired in series. Positive to negative to positive to negative... ect. Its the same thing as taking your side by side pack and stretching it out into two rows of three. :)
thanks for your help everyone. I just have a few questions because I am fairly new to electric racing. But so far I like it alot.. One more question though. What are the packs that are like this called
||||||
??
Also, I need to buy some good racing packs. I run stock right now and would like to get the very best I can within reason. So any tips would be great.. thanks

"Batteries wired in Parallel" refers to the electrical circuit made when you wire the batteries together, not the physical way of stacking them. As Charlie said, the battery packs we use are ALL wired in series, so you have nothing to worry about.
Just so you know for sure, these types of packs...

...are called saddle packs (the horizontal bar symbolizes a wire).
BTW, welcome Charlie. It's good to see you here, too. :) That "Irvine, CA" tipped me right off...
