Need Help With Motor

I really feel like a dumbass on this one. I took my motor apart and now i cant get it back together without the endbell coming off. i put the metal plate down in the can and screwed the endbell in but it always comes out with the endbell. Could any body tell me what i am doing wrong?

Make sure that screw hole on you lock ring is aligned with the holes on your endbell.
