I'll be aquiring an Ofna Z10 Rally in week, but I have no idea how electric works. I have 3 nitros now and those are a blast! But what am I going to need to get my car running and to maintain it? I know very little..such as; I'll need an ESC, a motor, and a single servo for steering. Now how do they determine the specs on the motors? I've seen them show different turns on the motors, where as the higher the turn the slower the motor?? 19T vs 9T the 9T would be faster?? And what about cutting Comms and springs?? what are those? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Even if its a well explaind website that would help as well. And what are the capacitors used for?
Thanks a lot!

capacitors help with radio glitches i think(they filter out some of the energy that comes from the motor)yes the 9 turn would be fast but you wouldn't have that much run time. higher wind= more torque. lower wind= more speed. you don't cut springs.the springs pusth the brush against the comm.

Well, the lower the turn of the motor, the faster it will be. But, you have to have electronics that will handle that kind of amp draw. I would suggest something like a Trinity Chameleon (19T) or a Speed Gems Sapphire (17T). They will have plenty of power, without being too much.

tadium is right on with the turns info. When current moves through the turns of wire, they create a magnetic field that interacts with the permanent magnets glued to the inside of the motor can. Torque is proportional to the strength of the magnetic field, which is proportional to the number of turns of wire (higher turns = more torque).

The lower turn motors don't create as much torque, but they can spin at much higher RPM. They're good for applications where the motor can be used at very high rpm most of the time. If you need to pull a lot of weight or if you need acceleration, the higher turn motors are a better choice.

Also to add to what the guys are saying higher turns also equate to more run time.

Do you have all the other stuff you need like batteries and a charger? that's stuff you need to look into also.

The replies are much appreciated. I believe I understand them a little better now. As far as ahving any supplies goes..not yet..I'm building up to it. So I'll need a charger and batteries, as well as an ESC. Correct? I think I'll start looking pretty soon. Thanks again for the help.
