View Full Version : How long do your 3000's last?
I have two Trinity Sanyo 3000mah pro batteries...one runs for about 7 minutes and 30 seconds and the other about 10 minutes. I use a Team Orion ChromeRS dyno tuned, Novak Fusion and a 21/87 gear ratio. There is definetly something wrong here. I have a friend who gets 12 minutes on a 10x1 Team Orion Chrome Modified. For those who have any type of 3000 mah batts, how long do they run and what motor, esc, gear ratio are you using? Should i send my batteries back to trinity? I use a duratrax intellipeak which i installed 12 guage wire and deans ultra plugs into. What charge rate should i use? Should i take the batts of the charger when they get to room temperature? Help me guys...these dang batts are expensive and i dont know what i will do if this keeps up.

With my spitfire, and my trusty 2400's in my buggy with a 21/82 ratio, will run 10 or 12 minutes, i never timed, never really cared, i also run a Fusion, that is serious, hardcore running it too.
sorry i cannot help, except to say, next time, go with some 2400's

Isky, my Team Orion 3000 lasts about 12 minutes. 15T modified Echo motor in my Ultima RB, with the stock gearing.

What kind of charger are you using? Charge the dud pack (or not so good 1) for that same time you do with your good battery.
i use a duratrax intellipeak charger at 3amps. i get 7.5 minutes and 9 minutes from a chrome stok and 21/87 gear. this ticks me off. i called trinity and they said they cant do anything. Can you say lawsuit????? That gives me an idea. kind of a money loss, but with the anguish and suffering a mill sounds nice.

Isky, does your charger specifically support NiMh batteries ? If not, you can't just leave them on until the charger says it's done - NiHh batteries don't peak (and then a voltage drop) like NiCd's which is what peak detection charges use to determine when a NiCd is charged. The name Intellipeak suggests that's the method it uses. so if it doesn't have a setting for NiMh you should remove them from charge when they get warm - not particularly accurate.
As for charge rate, you should be able to charge at C/3, where C is one hour. That is, to charge a 3000 in one hour you give it 3 amps, so to charge it in 20 mins (C/3) you can give it 9 amps theoretically. Most chargers won't go that high, but if it goes to 6 amps, that should charge them in 30 mins. Sounds like shite, doesn't it ? Try this link -> The R/C Battery Clinic (http://gnv.fdt.net/~redscho/) there's heaps of info on batteries there, charge rates etc, it may help with your problem. Let us know when you sort it out.

Actually, NiMH batteries do peak, but it is much more subtle than a NiCD peaking (the voltage doesn't drop as much). The Duratrax Intellipeak chargers are made to charge NiMHs, so that might not be the problem. I'd try repeaking them after you let them sit for a few minutes. They may be false peaking.
How do I like my 3000s? Frankly, I don't. I've bought 3 packs of 2400s since and I LOVE them, and I let other people use my 3000s because I don't even really want them anymore... I'm not buying more NiMHs until they're my only choice, which is years away.
A Lawsuit because your batteries don't last as long as you think they should? You're out of your freakin' mind...

AstroFlight recommends charging NiMH batteries at 1.2C, which 3.6 amps for 3000 mahr batteries. This is what I have used with good results.
hey thanks nairb...the batteries are defective since the begining. Selling defective products in NJ is ILLEGAl...hehe. Its not my fault Trinity sold faulty stuff...ill try the new amp rates on my Duratrax Intellipeak Deluxe. If you havent noticed these are apperently the old Apex machines...still being sold. Thanks for your help guys. im never buying another 3000mah again...ill keep ya posted. Mean while, any other info you can offer? Im not about to buy new batts...these POS cost me 57.99 each.

Will discharging them at a 2 or 10 amp rate help any? At this point I'm desperate.

hey guys...got another question. Duratrax says its fine to trickle charge ni-mh sub-c cells...trinity says otherwise. Any of you try it? Help...if you have read my above post you will know im desperate.

NiMH Cells do not like deep discharging, and they absolutley should not be trickle charged, listen to the battery manufacturer when it comes to care and such.
Every once in a while, equalize the cells, that is really all you need.
Well, not deep discharging...just discharging them slightly.

Isky, I was told by a buddy to charge my 3000 at 4.5amps so that's what I do http://www.rccaraction.com/ubb/wink.gif
Thanks Fergy...Im going to run my car at 3.6 amps charge rate for a week, then try 4.5 and see which has better run time.
