i was driving around (on dirt) and suddenly the truck started smoking, so i stopped it and turned it off immediatly
i ran up to it, took the body off and smoke was coming out of the esc (the 'runner' that comes with the t4)

when it finally stopped, i brought it in and let it sit to cool down

then i plugged the battery back in and tried to turn it...nothin, hit the gas..nothing

and the little green light that lights up wasn't on either
i tried charging the battery and it still didn't work
is the thing fried?

Yea it's deffinetly fried where you runing an after market motor? If you had anything in it lower then a mild 15T then that's what did it, but sometimes they just fry.

Sounds like the fets fried. Time for a new ESC. Try Novak, GTX with no motor limit or the GTS down to 12 turn. If your on a budget try the ExploreerII.

yeah, i was looking at the explorer2, but the motor i have in it is the 17t speed gems, and it's around 40*, so there's a pretty low chance it overheated
idk how it happened but i hope that the motor will still work

40*? Degrees? Timing is way too advanced if that's the case . . .

It might be a good idea to care how it happened so it doesn't happen again. :D Probably the most likely cause is that you were overgeared. As said if the ESC is not rated for 17T or less it was overstressed, and if overgeared it pushed it over the edge. You're probably still using stock Tamiya connectors too? That would have added to the overall resistance as well.

If you do a lot of hammering the throttle from a dead stop, this is also very hard on an electrical system, particularly the ESC. To avert disaster in the future, every now and then feel the motor midway through a battery, if it's almost too hot to touch something needs to be looked at - motor timing, gearing, brushes, connectors, something is causing the motor to work hard, which puts a lot of stress on the ESC.

there's no way im over geared because i was running the same spur/pinion in the summer, in the 90* heat
and i don't really punch the gas very much, sometimes i do when im coming out of like a turn at a slow speed, but when i first start i get up to speed gradually to make sure everything's working right
