I have a new 11x3 Chrome mod motor. I have trinity break in drops, but no mod lathe ( I do have a stock lathe). So how do I break it in?????????

you shouldnt need a lathe to break it in. to break it in, i just stick it in the car without the pinion, and turn the trim so its about 1/2 throttle and run it like that for a batt.
you could get stock to mod conversion for your lathe though. i would suggest it if you are running a 11 turn (you need to cut it after every race day)

bacially you could just put the drops on then connect the motor to a a single duracell c batterie and let it run it all the way dead. then use some duratrax powershot motor cleaner to get it clean, then reoil the bearing in it.

Okay i put a few motor drops on the comm and ran it at 1/3 throttle on a half full 1700. But I'll now have to wait till saturday again to clean it cuz i dont have any motor cleaning spray..................

You better watch out useing a 1700 mah you cold mess up your com, i suggest from now on only use a c batterie with no other elecstronics.that would be the proper way to do it.

Okay nevermind I used my drops and some one elses buggy blast and after a few break in runs on 2 C-Cells (borrowed from same guy) and it seems to run fine now. It is reaaaaally fast on my XX4 and very smooth running. Thanks yall

What about a stock motor? I read somewhere once that you could use a fully charged 4 cell pack and hook up to the motor, then dunk the motor in water. I've tried it and it works fine... I think. Has anyone else heard of this break-in process?

Yes, the water dunk works fine. But is really over kill for today's brushes. The water dunk iriginated in the early days when we all had to run the sealed endbell Mabuchi 540's. The brushes in those motors were so hard, It took forever to get them to seat. Basically we bought the motor, ran it underwater for a few min, until the brushed were fully seated, ran it about 3runs, and through it in the trash can.
The idea way to break in a motor is the run the motor at 2-3 volts for about 5min. With serrated brushes, this will get about a third of the serrations down. The first run in the car should fully remove the serrations. If they are still there after a 5min run in the car, you can safely gear up. If they are gone, and the brush is slightly discolored, you need to gear down.
I will also point out that it is VERY important to properly break in a mod motor. A full face non-serrated brush will chip the edge of the comm segments if it is not broken in slightly. You need at least enough of the brush face seated, so that the contact area of the brush is wider than the spaces between the comm segments.
See ya....
