ok i was racing in the stock class today and everyone, well all the good guys, were flying man clearing the tripple and stuff i had no chance. i just had my comm cut new brushes had broken the motor in(a gm3 in a b3) used comm drops and geared it high(25/78) why could i not keep up? is there something i dont know?

Does your stock class have a battery rule (are they regulated?) ? If not that may be part of it, the other part may be that you possibly need to gear down that GM3, remember, they are high RPM and lower torque so it may not have the "get up and go" that the others do.

Batteries can make a HUGE difference. Your gearing seems a tad tall to me as well, but I am no stock motor expert ;)

You have to keep in mind, being successful in stock means you need to have a PERFECT set up, from batteries to the motor, to the gearing, suspension & even how you drive it. In a number of cases, the guys who seem much faster can be doing it by carrying more speed through corners, so they don't have to spend much time accelerating, & that means they're topping out faster(& that may make it possible to clear jumps that others can't). It's really all about looking after every little detail, & not making any mistakes..... :)

that guy is geared wayyyyy too high for a GM-3 on a B-2.... a 21 pinion should be the largest you will ever run on that thing....
i beg to differ on why some "stock" guys are so fast....
when was the last time your track held a tech inspection??
a month ago?? a few months ago?? maybe a few years ago??
a buddy of mine related this story to me... (i swear it was a buddy, it was not me.... LOL)...
my buddy Ty was kicking butt at his local track.... he nearly always won the A-main and held the track record in stock class for both buggy and truck... then all of a sudden one of the mid-pack A-main guys started beating him, and posting new track records to boot...
so the on a following week Ty went to using a 17 turn mod in stock class (they never held tech at his track)... he still got beat, and he was majorly getting smoked on the straights by this other guy...
so, the next week he went with a new hand-wound 12 turn in stock class... during the first heat, he hit the main straight side by side with the "cheater"... and he was dead even with the guy at the end of the straight....
at this point, my buddy Ty put his radio down on the stand, held up his hand and motioned the track director over... then he pronounced to all the racers.. "i'm CHEATING with a 12 turn motor in this race!!! and i KNOW this other guy is too!!!"
well ty got disqualified from the race, and the other guy quietly hid the motor he was using from view... (and just happened to go back to a much slower pace in following weeks)
after that, they started holding tech every week....
one last story.... a couple weeks ago an old racing buddy of ours sent a whole box of old racing motors up to our track (at least 30 motors)... they were the old sealed type stockers, and he didn't use them anymore, but he thought the LHS could sell them to people for good practice motors...
well, we noticed that every motor had the tabs bent... so we tore a couple apart... every one of them had the comm turned down as low as you could go with a mod lathe, several had bearings installed, and after undwinding the arms, they were only 25 turns!!
these motors were from a guy we have tech'ed several times before, and nobody EVER thought he would be a cheater....
hummmmmmmmmm.......
there is a point about driving skill.... a cheater motor won't make a C-main guy win the A-main.... but they can put a mid-pack A-main guy farther to the front of the A-main...
so if you track hasn't run a tech inspection lately... bring it up with your track director... there may be no cheaters at your track... but i highly doubt it....
peace out... :)

is 'stock' in off road 20 turn? or the normal 27 turn? becuase i just got my T3 and it has the 20 turn and i was thinking, how do the stock guys get over these jumps? apparently, my motor didnt have enough power to get over the triple...(the triple is BIG)

Stock is 27-Turn. most motors that come with a car are referred to as stock but aren't.

Grizzbob has got it. I run novice truck, and most people in my class cannot clear the triple, while most of the stock truck class clears it easily. And it is because they take the right line. I finally got it the other night. I used to think I was underpowered, but once I started running the right line, I cleared it every time. Well, every time I got the line right. I know where it is now, but I still can't hit it all the time.
good batts are important, also.

Like Grizzbob said, it all comes down to setup and how much speed you can carry through the corners. This holds true for all forms of racing; Touring cars, 1/12, dirt oval, carpet oval, etc. Corner speed is very critical in racing.

Part of stock racing is rotating mass of the drivetrain. You want it as light as possible so you can use every last RPM of the motor. You also need to tune your motor for max power.

A lot of it also has to do with springs and brushes. Me and my dad always had people pointing fingers at us and accusing us of cheating. We had four motors torn down and therefore thrown away because a few guys swore we were cheating. Take the time to test brushes and springs, and it will pay off. I have NEVER seen a faster stock motor than any of mine, and I have many fast ones.
Another thing: LOCK DOWN YOUR SLIPPER!!!!! If you need a slipper to help you get the power down in stock you need to move down to novice. Why waste time waiting for the slipper? Just feather the throttle, find some traction, and stand in it when the car gets moving. Sure, it is hard to learn, but if you want to be fast that is what you have to do.

locking down your slipper for speed isn't for everyone.... some people prefer it, others don't.... it is on your truck/buggy for more than just tranny protection.... on a slick track, a slipper clutch is Very valuable...
peace out... :)

yeah my track always talks about teching motors but they never do, i had all stock stuff not even bearins in my motor i was pulling 11 laps when i wouldnt hit anything they were pulling 13 and 14, and had fast laps of 21 sec i had 26's, im gonna stick some bearins in my motor and ask the track directer to tech motors too

i also rebuilt the whole drivetrain and its smmoooooth now tighten the slipper all the way too and geared the gm3 to a 23/78 i think i should do alright now i may put bearings in i dunno yet

Don't. There's no need to stoop to a cheater's level, it makes you no better than him. Just do like I suggested, keep at it, perfect your setup, & work on your driving, I'll bet it WILL make a difference..... :)
