Using a 12V Battery?

I got this idea the other day about using a small 12v cycle batter to power a r/c car. I wanted to test it out on a stock RC10 T3 but the problem comes in with the amount of power a standard 6 cell battery pack puts out verse the 12v battery. The 6 cell puts out 8v and the 12v battery puts out 12v what type and size of resistor would I need to use or could I use just the battery?

First you need a ESC that can handle 10-12 cells, a 12v Lead-acid is really 13.8v. Most motors will not handle that voltage, for long.

Some esc's will handle 12 volts, but what about the weight? It may triple in weight.
