mini stadium truck?
All the other micro's out there have an .051 engine by Toki.. which is over 3 times less displacement than a .18... This one should outrun any micro, considering a hot .12 engine would probably fit just as well. :)

1/10th buggy tires bolt right up! I can't even imagine how uncontrollably fast this thing is going to be! It looks more like 1/12 or 1/14th scale to me.

Is this 2 wheel or 4 wheel drive?
It looks to be 2WD to me, as the front bulkhead does not seem to have much room for a differential.
Too bad it does not have the shaft start setup like numerous other Schumacher's.....
(what, no 3 speed transmission? :D )
Bart_Banaan
02-10-2006, 03:12 PM
Its 2WD (RWD)....
metalry101
02-10-2006, 11:25 PM
2wd, .18, 1/16 scale. If Schumacher wants to sell me a dozen sets of rear tires, why don't they just come out and say it? And make it for a vehicle that'd be fun to drive while they'e at it...
It's a cool concept, but the Mini-T has trouble hooking up on all but the most high-bite surfaces, and even then you can provoke wheelspin with a stab of the throttle. This thing should be 10x worse given the insane torque that an .18 would put out, even an extremely mild one. I think this truck would work a lot better with a smaller, higher reving, less torquey motor. That, and/or 4WD.

But still, it looks way cleaner and less of a hodgepodge than some of the 4wd mini cars.
It's still got some weight to it, that should help

A complete selection of hop up parts are already available (almost all of the parts that fit the Nitro RS4 work for the Nitro RS4 Mini). The wheelbase is 225mm in kit form, but can be made 208mm. The overall length is about 305mm (@ 345mm w/ body), width is about 160mm.
this is the spec sheet from the HPI Nitro mini page..on the ad from schumacher,it says the dimensions are 300mm by 230 mm...so I would guess that its roughly the same size, allowing for the larger tires....
looks like it could be fun..with wheely bars added... :D

I was just thinking about the dimensions...
If a 1/16 truck is 300mm long, where's my 2 feet long 1/8?

Glad you like the Rascal guys!
The .18 in the Rascal has a restrictor between the carb and the engine that makes the power output more reasonable (slightly less insane...lol). The Rascal out of the box is extremely fast but very easy to drive. We went with an .18 as it is a great engine that is easy to start, tune and keep running. .05 engines are generally very finicky to tune and hard to keep running. They also usually require special fuels. None of this is an issue with the .18.
There will be a bigger restrictor available as an option part but it makes the Rascal pretty crazy to drive. Picture a 4000hp Top Fuel dragster motor in a Honda Civic and you will start to get the idea of whats its like.
The Rascal takes standard servos and electronics so there is no fragile micro equipment necessary.
It is 2wd and it is a lot of fun to run. It handles like a 1/10th stadium race truck but it is a lot smaller.
The Rascal uses Schumacher 2.2" rear buggy size wheels front at rear so there are hundreds of tires to choose from.
The Rascal release is still a couple of months away. We showed it earlier than normal for a developing car at Nuremberg to gauge consumer response and it was so positive we put its development on the fast track.
If you have an questions post them here an I will answer them.
Thanks,

Yeah I hear you. Everyone wants to do the Cat4000 next but there are so many projects that are gauranteed bigger sellers that its hard to get to the Cat.

I am waiting the CAT4000 too. Is Schumacher going out of racing image? 4WD buggy is getting hot again recently. I love my CAT3000 but would like to see the next generation.

Schumacher is extremely active in racing. We just won the 2005 Sedan EuroChamps!
4WD is certianly hot again but you have to understand that "Hot" 4wd sales pale in comparison to Mi2EC, Havoc and Menace sales. The New Rascal and Riot will sell more in their first year of sales that the entire worlds production of 4wd buggies (from all manufacturers) during the same period.
Like I said. Everyone in Schumacher Managment, R&D and most of the Sales department are hard core racers and we all want a 4wd buggy (a 2wd too...lol!). We just have to wait for the right time.
I just saw an ad for the Rascal. What slick lookin truck. 40MPH out of the box, thats fast. $310 for RTR and $260 w/o radio, not bad. I would like to see some flicks of it in action.
hmmm...well I couldn't help myself and bought the first ARR Rascal that came into my LFS.
The tyres do not seem to be a problem as far as I am concerned but Schumacher have their own drive-system connecting the wheels so it would seem they want me to buy many sets of wheels rather than many sets of tyres.
Also, the Mini-T is a VERY light car and this baby isn't. With 4mm chassis, the .18 and the standard sized servos the truck is pretty hefty.
I will pick it up this week and if the weather holds I will I'll break it in an dlet you know what happens.

Adrien, I heard that there was going to be a 2 speed option released for the Rascal. Is this true?
And are other .18 motors a direct drop-in?
Also, isn't the Rascal basically a sized down version of that Nitro ST you are going to release? I looked at the two, and they look almost identical, except for the size and a few other things.
Also, does the Rascal have oil shocks stock?
I have fired the little Rascal up and run about 3½ tanks thru the motor.
Gotta say I am pretty impressed with the unit as a whole but there are some things that I am not all that wrapped about. I feel the Torqz-head screws are just an excuse to get some more money outta me for a tool that i do not use on anything else, the wiring layout which runs wires right next to the heatsink/block is just asking for trouble and the wheels which use a system that no other manufacturer(that I can find) uses.
On the plus side tho are the wheelies that the truck pops(even on the rich settings at run in and only using ½ throttle, the handleing seems to be really smooth and responsive(unless you are on the gas and then there is a push....a big push lol) and the noise is pretty loud too.
As the motor gets run a little more I will see about this 65Mph claim, on the box, which I don't see it making in a month of sundays without another geer.
Getting a few more tanks thru the Rascal shows that the run-times are close to 10min, even on the rich settings I have been running it at.
However, the motor does run at pretty high temps and I have found myself a little concerned about the heat...but we will see how it goes.

Adrien, I heard that there was going to be a 2 speed option released for the Rascal. Is this true?
Yes, we should have them in the US by late September. Around the same time we will get our alloy suspension hop up parts. If you want you can replace every black plastic suspension part on the Rascal with gleaming purple anodized alloy bling!
And are other .18 motors a direct drop-in?
Yes, our engine is a standard small block SG shaft unit.
Also, isn't the Rascal basically a sized down version of that Nitro ST you are going to release? I looked at the two, and they look almost identical, except for the size and a few other things.
The forthcoming Riot ST is actually a blown up Rascal. It will use standard 2.2" stadium truck tires and bodies.
Also, does the Rascal have oil shocks stock?
Yes, oil shock are stock and you can get purple alloy bodies as a hop up
Re: Torx Screws
There is no torx consipracy designed to make you buy more tools. They are simply an inexpensive, functional, hard to strip out fastener that does a great job at holding the car together
doesgo
08-17-2006, 01:08 PM
I agree with the Torx part for sure. Not a lot of people have Torx drivers, but Torx screws have been used in the 1:1 automotive industry for 25+ years, the tools are out there and easy to find, and they definitely grip and resist stripping better than Phillips, hex, or just about anything else.
hmmm....and yet the only model/vehicle I own that uses Torx is my Rascal.
What I am more interested in is the expected "Safe-Running Temp" of the Rascals .18 engine and how Schueey got the thing to do 65Mp/h. Was the body melting arount the Heat-sink at that stage or was the car run very lean on one run that hit 65Mp/h?

wow an 18 in that, they crazy.
You can use a regular hex driver in a torx screw, in a pinch.

These little .18 engines run hotter than normal engines (close to 300*).
There is no 65mph quote; it's 65kph and 40mph on the box ;)
ahh....sorry, you are dead right about the Km/h rather than Mp/h.
65KM/h it does.
Thanks for the heads up about the running temp too.
I keep seeing them pop up in magazines. I am so tempted to get one. With an optional two speed. That would be crazy. 40mph, thats crazy fast for such a tiny truck, I'm assuming that would be bumped up with the addition of the two speed :). It must be a blast to drive.
Any updates on the Rascal.
Hows it running?
Does it hold a tune?
How would you compare it to other Mini Nitros?
I may pick one up, just want to see what people say about them after a few tanks and maybe some hop ups.
Thanks

Are these availbile in the US yet? I was thinking of getting one as a early birthday present for myself. :)

Yes they are. They are in a lot of shops already and all the magazines are doing reviews on them now.
If you want one have your local shop contact Schumacher. ANY shop can call Schumacher and have one on the way within 24 hours. You can also order direct from Schumacher.

Schumacher needs to team up with castle creations and stick one of their insane 540 size brushless motors in there.

Any new updates?
Has anyone dropped a 2 spd in one of these bad boys? I'm getting closer to getting one, just looking for a little more feedback on it.

i would buy a 4wd most def.
AdrianM

Tig - The 2 speed is not out yet. We had some delays wit the clutch bell supplier. We should have them in ~3 weeks.
SkylineTT - Ask anyone that saw our Rascal Demos at the iHobby Show in Chicago what the most impressive car demo they saw was. 4WD has its place and so does 2WD ;)
Our Sunday Demos were the most extreme. The crowd was banging on the safety barriers and screaming JUMP, JUMP, JUMP while Paul Wynn kept front fliping a Rascal 10' into the air, landing it and going around to do it over and over again.
You can read about it in R/C Driver, Xtreme R/C Cars and R/C Car. Unfortunatly R/C Car Action packed up and went home early so they missed the highlight of this years show.

We saw the Rascal demos at the iHobby and they definately were impressive. My son will be getting one for Christmas and he has wanted it since they first were introduced. The alloy hopups on the display model also looked real cool !
BTW. When is the new lower price going to be available as advertised on the brochure at $279.99 RTR. The Schumacher home page in Europe has it at the lower price but not the US.

The website should be updated very soon. We just wanted to give our dealers a little time to sell through the kits they had in stock that they purchased at the higher initial price.
 They're lowering the prices
Well, that will make it easier to buy one :D
This purchase could be sooner than later.
Heres a question for you Schumacher guys.
Why does it say it will do 40mph on the box, BUT the recent issue of RCCA says its top speed was 28mph. I hope the 40mph wasnt the quoted speed with the 2 spd.
Anybody have an answer about the speed of the Rascal. I saw it in another magazine.
Whats the deal guys? Thats quite a difference in speed.
