Hi Guys.
I'm building a new RC-10B3 at the moment and I'm trying to make it a competitive Racer. What speed control would i want to get to accomplish this? Also..what is a pretty common motor for offroad racing?

For a ESC Get a Reversible Rooster I'm not sure what motor you want not really into Off-Road. http://www.rccaraction.com/ubb/frown.gif Sorry

Helllo hello, anyways, the LRP V7.1 and the Novak Cyclone and Atom seem to be the popular ESCs, but they run about 130$, hmmm, good stock motor, P2K pro(trinity)get the pro, it is better, for mods, i would get the Peak Aurora. What kind of batts are you using?

If you are going to race, get a non-reversing ESC. Reverse isn't legal at races. Some ESC's allow you to lock out the reverse, but the resistance is higher on reversing ESC's so you won't get peak performance. If you are going for a racer, expect to spend over $100 on a good ESC. I would suggest a Novak Cyclone or Novak Atom.

For the speed control get the Novak Cyclone. And for the motor get the peak splitefire or Team Orion Crome Stock. There much faster than the P2K and Parodox pro.
If you want a modified motor get a Reedy.

THE B3 THREE IN MY OPINION IS A GREAT CHOICE, IT WAS MY 1ST OFF ROAD MACHINE, AND AS FAR AS COMPETETIVE, AND EASY OF DRIVING, HASN'T LET ME DOWN. IF THIS IS YOUR FIRST MACHINE AND YOU JUST WANT TO GET YOUR FEET WET IN OFF ROAD RC THEN I DON'T SEE ANY REASON YOU HAVE TO BREAK THE BANK ON YOUR FIRST ESC. IN MY OPINION, NOVAK MAKES SOME REAL TOP OF THE LINE ELECTRONICS, BUT SO DOES TEKIN, AND DURATRAX. BEFORE YOU GO TO BUY YOUR FIRST ESC DO SOME "SOUL SEARCHING" AND REALLY THINK ABOUT HOW YOUR GOING TO USE YOUR BUGGY.( IF YOUR GOING TO CHASE CATS WITH IT THEN YOU MAY WANT A REVERSING ESC, IF YOUR ONLY GOING TO CHASE CATS BETWEEN RACES THEN YOU SHOULD GET AN ESC WITH REVERSE LOCK OUT LIKE THE ONE I USE IN MY B3, THE NOVAK REACTOR,IF YOU ALL ABOUT COPMETING AND JUST STARTING YOU STILL DON'T HAVE TO BREAK THE BANK, MY 1ST ESC WAS A DURATRAX SPIKE, AND I DID WIN RACES ON OCCASION, THE COMPETITION IN RC COMES FROM THE DRIVERS SKILL. ALSO PLEASE REMEMBER, THIS IS SUPPOSED TO BE FUN, DON'T TAKE EVERYTHING TOO SERIOUSLY. AS FAR AS A GOOD MOTOR, I'VE HAD A LOT OF LUCK WITH THE REEDY TYPE R, ITS A RELIABLE POWER HOUSE THAT WHEN GEARED PROPERLY WILL COMPETE WITH ANY OTHER STOCK POWER PLANT.
BY THE WAY YOU SHOULD READ WHAT IVE SUBMITTED "STUCK WITH A SLOPPY REAR END, IT APPLIES TO MY B3.
GOOD LUCK, AND HAVE FUN!

If you really want to bash around and ALSO race, then you should get a high end reversible ESC, with disable for reverse, 2 great ones are the Novak Super Rooster and LRP F1 PRO Reverse. These are both good to race, and give you the option to play with reverse when not competing, a good balance.

You said you wanted to make a competitive racer, if thats the case get a non reversing speed control ether from tekin, novak or lrp,the rooster may have reverse lockout but it does have more resistance and the thing is just huge.
The racers driving ability matters most, but we all take a little pride in our machines, its nice to know our car is more capable then we are.

Hey, you know what, i had a reversing ESC, blew it out a few times, so i got a Fusion(non reversible) and i have not missed reverse at ALL!!!!! Another thing, if you plan to race, those are rather large ESC's when compared to other ones(especially the forward only ones) just thought i would put my 2 cents in. ohh, and batteries, try getting a 2400 pack, they are GREAT!! they are all i am gonna use, long enough for mod, enough punch for stock, and time to spare, try getting some integy packs, they are the best orice i have found on matched packs

ok hears your best bet i race in big races. get a factory team b3 because then you wont need to get upgrades down the line. then get a LRP V6 or V7.1 i swear by them. if you buy somthing else you'll only be wasting more money. casue in time you will learn to race without reverse and if you start racing without reverse you'll be used to it by the time you race. then you should get either a reedy firehawk for practice till you get good ok cause you don't want to ruin a good motor you would rather use a firehawk now for practice till you get good, and its not all about speed cause you as a beginner will not be able to handle a mod. use a mod when you get good. for the motor stock motor when you dicide to race use a Reedy Rage or P2k pro. remember when you change your brushes get the comm cut belive me on this one. also clean out the motor. for a radio you could get a futaba magnum sport thats AM or get the good one a kopropo EX-11 PRESTO FM more control and no glitching. get a good servo like hitec 605bb its fast. and you get the reciever with the radio. ok that about it. you should get this stuff cause im a very experienced racer. when you first drive don't be going full throttle, you should at first drive slow around the street to get a feel for you hand eye coordination i suggest you put some cones or something in the street as obstacles for a better feel for your car, you should get some road tires for the street. do this and you'll become a perfect racer. seriously. if you need more information email me at MR_TC3@hotmail.com ok cause i race a B3 and i wish i would have done this. if you need tips on building the kit just email me. ok

Sonic2 10x4
Novak atom or Cyclone
Any futuba Radio or Airtronics
Get extra Tires
Get an extra body (trust me beginners tend to crash in the barriers [alot] when racing.)
get extra rims
and the rest is up to you.

those super rooster are way too big to fit into a b3 (unless u mount them right up on the rear shock mounts).

yeah, this one is old. The guy probably already bought all his stuff, and replacements for breaking it, and is now retired because he always dumped in the race because he was doing reverse donuts around other cars! :)
