Good racing today. Congrats to the winners. Tag, I forgot to ask you about some stuff today. So I sent ya PM on RCTech.

Kenny, here is the link for the aluminum steering knuckles for your car. http://www.speedtechrc.com/store/ebproductdetail.asp?catmainid=337&id=1060 But I know how you are... so part number is... Square (company/brand) STV-35. All ya gotta do is click the link and look at the part number.... They are very durable. I have a set for my TA05.

Glenn, for your car, try out Associated Purple Springs Front and Red Rear. That's close to what I'm running on my Cyclone. I also have a part I can give to since I don't need it. It's a rear toe block. I'll give it to ya next week. I don't need it because it's purple and I have a Blue one already to match my car.

Catch yall next weekend...

JimmyMac
10-14-2006, 11:14 PM

they ran foams...

Rumor was they will keep running foams. Even though rubber tire is the cheaper and easier way to go. But the cars would be a tad slower. I dunno what the official word is though....

Well there were T2's, Corally RDX's, HB Cyclones, Tamiya's, Shuie's, AE tc3 and 4 all there Sat.

Its really a personal choice.

Any and all are very capable of running up front.

But I seem to recall Glenn having a T2 in the hobby shop a few weeks ago.

Or you can wait until the end of the month I know there will be some GREAT USED CARS FOR SALE....

Not off hand but, Purple front springs, cooper rears, 2 hole pistons and 50 wt oil with stock mounting points on shocks and camber links.. 0 front toe, 2 deg front camber ,1 1/2 rear camber ,4 1/2 mm ride height and 2 mm up travel all around will get you REAL close... Hope this helps Gear 27 mm for stock...

I plan on being down there this weekend to run 12th and mini. Is there any rules I need to know about the mini class. I know right now that it is any Tamiya hop up parts but I was wondering about the tires and the batteries.

will be first time running both...could use some help on a starting point on roll out for the 12th scale. I was thinking somewhere around a 2.00. I just need to get in the ballpark and I can work from there. See you Sat.

Set-up? The silly things dialed! It's the driver that has the problems!!

As for the mini class, all Tamiya hop-ups are allowed as per the TCS rules. The tires and rims should be Tamiya mini rubber tires but there has been a car there running a set of HPI mini rims with Tamiya tires on them,,, like a rim is gonna make a difference,, so we let it run. Stock silver can motors are what we have in them for motorvation. Basically, if you follow the TCS rules, your okay to roll.

JimmyMac
10-22-2006, 12:27 AM
Well had fun today even though I had to work and came in late to the track. Thanks for letting me run your car Ron. It drives pretty good after I turned down the dual rate. It's alittle tricky/slick at the start of the race. But after a few laps, you can drive the car pretty hard when needed. Now you just need to take out the Monster Stock and toss in an Express Co27 and toss the GP3300 packs for some Express IB4200 cells and I'm sure you can drop a second per lap!! hehe... :D Can't wait to get my Hammer12 running!! But anyways, the car is good. Don't change the setup.

Congrats to all the winners. There was some great racing tonight. And I'm sure there's more to come!

Anyways, I "should" be there early next weekend. haha.. right.... But if things work out as planned... I will be early. Plus hopefully I'll have both my 12th scale and Touring car ready. So see ya soon!!

Oh yeah.. Glenn.. I need some battery bars. Do you have any left? And I also need 2 Deans pigtails. I gotta build 2 packs and send them off to Japan next week... So I'll stop in Monday after work...

yeah i was slacking alittle :D ...I did'nt work on my motor,or run good tires all day....But I did find an awsome setup!...If I would have cut the motor and put good tires on the car..12.2 easy.....and It just so happens that i have been wrenching on my car all day...fresh diffs..spur gear..cleaning every little part...pretty much took the car back to kit form and rebuilt it.

Ron Zee
10-22-2006, 10:34 PM
Okay, so I was wrong,,, it has to be TCS legal to run. That means NO other manufacturers stuff on your mini. There was also another thing brought up today, that the tires used on your mini which are made by Tamiya of course, but they all have to be the same on all 4 corners of the car. No one kind on one end and another on the other end. Sorry about this but it is in the best interest of the class to run it this way. This way anyone from anywhere that runs minis using the TCS standard, can come and run with us with no problems. We'll all be the "same". I saw on the Tamiya website a whole bunch of stuff one could use to "upgrade" their car. Some of it is just bling, but a few things can help in the dependability department. Like motor heat sinks, universal axles, the battery holders (which I have and love, they make it so easy to change a battery,,) and more.
As for my 1/12th,, hard to belive I have 2 cars that are more than capable of winning! My 415 did it with Justin at the wheel, and last night, my 1/12th with Jimmy driving. Maybe I should be letting someone else drive my mini,,,,,

Anyhoo, had a good time running last night, and maybe soon, I'll be able to run my 415 again. :driving:

I'm staying on foam's if brushless goes to rubber I'll just go back to brushed.

lowbugit
10-23-2006, 09:17 PM
I think I would prefer to stay on foams as well. 3 weeks same set of foams very little wear. I don't really think the savings will be worth the setup difference between the two. I have heard that the rubber tires performance drops off long before they are wornout. So what you will have is some running on new rubber out performing those on older rubber, same problem as always will apply you will have to buy new ones to get the performance back. Just an opinion. Kevin Mac.

Had fun this weekend, had a good run in 1/12th with John. Okay, so we both tried to occupy the same spot on the track at one point and it seems I got the better end of it, but hey, the car was going great! And for once I stayed off the walls and flappers more than usual and held on to the win. But, man was he comming on on the last lap! I definatly would not have been able to hold him off another lap. And Laurie,,, sick fast mini there. Todd and I were talking earlier in the day and he thought that 18 laps would be hard to do. That was before Laurie went 17 with a 5:03. Sick fast,,,,

Anyhoo, see you all next week. I think I'll try driving my 415 again. It's been awhile,,,,

Reggie, I got it from Jason. It's a very nice kit. I ran it this weekend and the car felt better (flatter and less snappy in the turns). I just didn't bother tuning the car or tossing in a different motor. I was trying to put together my 12th scale inbetween heats and calling a few races. I'll concentrate on it more later. But it's a must have for carpet. Just be sure to get some Tamiya EvoIV/415 suspension shafts or some T2 front suspension shafts to the rear of the car. Jason moved the rear block back farther to allow the arms to be moved back further. So the stock Cyclone shafts are too short in the rear.

Well my 12th scale ran pretty good. I wasn't under the clock in the main. But a few said I was posting some fast lap times. Everything will be ready to roll next weekend.

Glenn, can you order me a set or 2 of some Parma 12th scale foams. #16032 for Grey Rears. And #16020 for Purple fronts. That's what I ran yesterday.

Congrats to all the winners yesterday. Had fun. Catch yall next weekend..

Hey Ron, I'm gonna give ya an old 4cell pack. Actually it was a 6cell pack. But one cell was bad. Its a 3800 pack. I'm hoping that it's better than your 3300 pack that keeps dumping on ya in 12th scale. So we shall see.

Thanks Mark, that will get me in the ball park.

Glenn, you got a 13.5 motor is stock?

One more question guys, what's the tire of choice? I'm still on 28mm Jaco tires, purple/orange front and purple rear, that was the hot setup a couple of years ago. Are these still even used anymore? My vintage ride needs new shoes, I've got no clue what to buy.

justin lessard
10-30-2006, 08:01 PM
parma cyan magents's are a good easy to drive combo....indigo and magenta's are a little more aggresive...and magenta fronts and rears are super aggresive.

the jaco 26mm wrap is an awsome tire....they are my choice for stock and 19t,nearly all A main driver at cleveland were on jaco 26mm wraps.

chance
10-30-2006, 09:10 PM
Thanks Justin. I'm looking for even wear front to rear, wouldn't the magenta front and rear wear unevenly, or at least wear the fronts out well before the rear?
I like the way the purple/orange and purple tires wear down evenly together. Do the Parma tires have a harder outer edge to keep the fronts from wearing to quickly?

Kenny, i had to take my wife to the doctors in Charlotte today, so i will order your tamiya parts tuesday. I'm having trouble getting on p-dub site and can't order from them yet. Chance, i have a 13.5 in stock. Cyan and magenta tires from parma are working best. See you all saturday.

FOR IMMEDIATE NEWS RELEASE

Bob Novak from Novak Electronics Inc & John Tag from Express Motorsports

This week on RC Race’n Radio

JimmyMac
10-30-2006, 09:38 PM
Chance, I run Parma Cyan front and Magenta rear. The Cyan's have a hard outter edge. Car feels good with them on. As for tire wear, I started off with new tires cut to about 57.5 mm for the first qualifier. By the end of the mains I was down to 56.1mm. The only tire off was the rear right tire. It was 56.5mm. This tire has the least amount of load obviously on the track. I didn't even bother truing the tires after each round. I just rotated left to right. But not every round. If you want the car to feel more aggressive, then switch to Indigo fronts instead of Cyan.

With the new 26mm Jaco's, you gotta start them off taller. Maybe 58mm or taller. But it's suppose to be an awesome tire. I'm just wondering what the offset is. I'm sure some of the guys would like to start off even taller to get more runs over the weekends. But I run a new set every weekend. I figure less than $30 for tires and $15 entry fee... so less than $50 a weekend to have fun is no biggy. :D

John Tag
11-03-2006, 09:39 AM
Hey Tim... I belive you want a 100 spur gear to start or there so.. and try to roll out about 26-27mm. Chasie stock mounting points are fine to get started as for shocks and camber links. 50 wt oil front and rear coper rear springs and purple fronts set at 4 1/2 mm ride height and 2 mm droop all around ,aslo 2 deg camber all 4 corners and 0 toe..

Thanks John.

I almost have my Cyclone S ready for the maiden test drive. I just need to do some soldering and paint a body.

Anyway, I think I will drop by Rosewood tomorrow to watch a few heats if I am still in the the good graces of my boss (my wife of course).

My buddy with the TC3 (his name is Felix by the way) might stop in as well, but he lives in Fayetteville.

11-03-2006, 08:07 PM
Tim, I think you have a very very good screen name!! You need to get off your butt and come racing!!! Don't worry, I think Glenn likes your screen name too! I built and installed his electronics for his Cyclone S and he STILL hasn't raced it!!! haha...

slakr
11-03-2006, 08:35 PM
Jimmy,
Ya, my screen name fits...
At least I publically admit it!
I will be down tomorrow to catch a few heats and get the remaining items I need. Maybe I can get some tips and pointers from you or maybe you can finish the Cyclone for the old SLAKR! (JK)
I need to figure out what pinion gear I need to run on the Cyclone with the 13.5 brushless motor.
Did you install a pinion on Glenn's Cyclone? How many teeth?
Next weekend I have to work, but my plans are to be there racing on the 18th.

JimmyMac
11-03-2006, 09:07 PM
First off I told Glenn to toss on a 100spur. That away I can help him with Rollout since that's what spur I run. Your pinion would depend on your tire size though. Goin by what someone suggested (for brushless) of a rollout of 28.5mm... and say a tire size of ohhh 60mm for example... you'd need a 37 pinion. At 58mm tires, you'd need a 38 pinion. At 56mm you'd need a 39 or 40 pinion. If your tire is taller than 60mm (and I hope it's not) then you would need a pinion smaller than 36. A 36 pinion is the smallest pinion you can run on my Cyclone with a 100 spur. That's as far as the motor adjusts in the car. You would need a larger spur.... say a 105 spur to go smaller on the pinion. Kit spur is uhhh 98? So are even more limited on how small you can go on your pinion. Maybe 37 or 38 pinion is the smallest you can go. Anyways.... hopefully I didn't confuse you toooo much hehe...

slakr
11-03-2006, 10:59 PM
Jimmy,
I have not trued my tires yet. So I will use as a starting point of a 60mm tire size with a 100 tooth spur and 37 tooth pinion. I'll also pick up 38-40 tooth pinions.
You motivated me enough that I now have the radio gear installed (receiver, servo, ESC & transponder). I also installed and soldered up the motor and a deans plug on the ESC battery lead. I suck at soldering. I need to true up a set of tires and paint a body and then I guess I am out of excuses.
Somebody will definately have to explain "rollout" to me. :teacher:

Glenn,
I will need a 100 tooth spur and 37 through 40 tooth pinion gears for my Cyclone S.
I hope you have some in stock. I would like to pick them up tomorrow if you do.

-Tim

U mean the T2 I will be driving

Justin, something for you to take as a little advice.

I heard you didn't run TC today.

Don't put all of your eggs in one basket. Meaning...

If you are done with the one ride, don't Count on or wait on the "OFFER' to follow thru.

If you are going to the Champs and are done with car "A" you should have RAN car "C" today since car "B" is still not a done deal. That way if the "offer" falls thru you would have some time on car "C" before a MAJOR race......so you aren't lost there with what that car likes and doesn't like vs your driving style.

BTW my Losi JXSR-R was shipped today. I will have it Fri. for an all day practice session!

reginald68
11-04-2006, 10:28 PM

Had fun. Catch yall next weekend..thxs on info jmac

:D haha...this won't be the first time you've practiced all day and I still lap you on saterday..lol...BTW what is a JXSR-R...THATS NOT EVEN A REAL CAR!!!.....Hmmmm

:D haha...this won't be the first time you've practiced all day and I still lap you on saterday..lol...BTW what is a JXSR-R...THATS NOT EVEN A REAL CAR!!!.....Hmmmm

Thats alright, The whole day i practiced and you were still one lap up, I didn't quit that day!!! Plus the day I practiced I had NOTHING to base times off of, my car felt great, but that was the problem..it was TOO stuck making it scrub so much speed... But thats not the case anymore! :)

I did tune my own car to get it somewhat better.

As for the "JXSR-R" you knew what I was talking about, cause I know you ask "I didn't think that was coming out until Dec/Jan"

But If you go back and reread Brandons post to you, you may learn something....you have to OPEN YOUR OWN MOUTH AND ASK for what you want in life....

What happened to your truck??? :(

Going home Sat. night between Kinston and New Bern I was running
just a little over the speed limit and it appears it broke a connecting rod being as there is a hole in the base pan !!! So it looks like I have to buy a new engine or at least a good used motor. I am sure mine is not rebuildable.
So does anyone have a good Ford Lighting Motor just lying around that they don't need. I sure could use one.!!!!

Anthony,, Just wondering but,, If your runnning a Losi soon, how come that little avatar thingy in the upper left corner looks like the thingy on Justins "old" car??

Had fun running the mini's but I think I need to get my butt whooped a few times in stock soon so,,, I may be running it this weekend. Seems the boss is going hunting this week so that means Fri. afternoon looks like I'll have off so I'll see you guys out there too. Yeah, that'll be different,, me actually practicing,,,

Rons it's called mass confusion. That's why he has that avatar. Either that or he just got stupid and let Justin talk him into it.. hehe...

Well this looks to be another weekend that I'll be slow in Touring cars. New XBox 360 game coming out this week. Call of Duty 3. GAR, you gotta get this one for the PC when it's out! It's tons better than Call of Duty 2 and that was the shizznit last year!! Ahhh man, my tv is gonna get major burn in this week!!

Hey guys, can we change the track a little? Don't have a cow! LOL

Not the driving line, just the board that sticks out at a 90 degree angle in front of the driver's stand for the chicane.
Could we replace it with two longer boards set at a vee and capped with a strip of that nylon material?

I see a lot of people hit that thing, I've hit it several times my self. I think a set of angled boards might be easier for the eye to pick up on verses that single board sticking straight out from the driver's point of view.

Were there any boards left over that could be used to lay on the track just to see how it would look?

What do you guys think?

Dee

I'm not allowed to pratice Tag. I'm retired for the rest of the year! Plus that would mean I'd have to actually set my alarm clock Saturday!! Yikes!!! I'll see what I can do for this weekend. I did actually change the setup on my car alittle this past Saturday. I guess I could get off my butt and change it some more. Plus I'll cut the motor. It hasn't been touched since asphalt season. And I still can't find my other CO27!????

By the way Tag. Thanks for the 12th scale motor. It was plenty fast. It didn't even wear at all!! Just that unexpected Spektrum problems that happened during the main. It might be that or the KO ESC voltage settings. Either way I'm adding a Rx cap and changing the ESC profile to a 12th scale profile. See ya this weekend.

Chance, I don't mind as long as the driving line is the same like you said. I highly doubt there is any wood left. But I may be wrong. John North and Mark P should know.

Chance If you were there for the main, you'd have pulled off. It was by far the biggest hammer fest in years. (now I'll get in trouble for sayin' that,,)

The boards are screwed together and linked at the ends and the major spots that get bumped or flat out run into are whats velcroed down. And some of those velcro spots are stuck REAL TIGHT, just ask Jimmy. Just about pulled his back out trying to move one awhile back,,,

Oh,,, gotta go,, the mail guy just left me a BIG box of stuff,,, gotta love that early online Christmas shopping!

I don't think the 13.5 needs to be run in stock mode. It's already limited by the turns it has in the motor itself... 13.5 turns. But the brushless class is 13.5 motors only. No 3.5 in stock mode. Performance just would not be the same as the 13.5. It may be worse, it may be better....

Glenn, I think I have some spare 4degree c-hubs. I don't use them for carpet. I'll bring them tomorrow after work if I can make it out there. Don't you have a GreatPlanes account? Tower shows them in stock.

what exactly do you need the floppy for?
Is it for transferring the results? You could just get a usb drive to transfer it and not have to worry about floppies.
Or....get a wireless card for the laptop since you have wireless in there.
