I have a stock TA03F and my cousing has a stock TL01. When we line up, he takes off leaving me in the dust. I would think that the gear ratios are just completely different, but the top speeds are close to the same. We have the same radio, same silver stock 540's, same Tamiya stock slicks, pretty much same everything. The only difference is that I have a Traxxas XL1 ESC and he has a Duratrax Blast ESC(as you can tell, we aren't really looking at racing yet, just bashing) What can I do to take him off the line? Is the TL01 suppossed to be faster than the TA03?

Does either of the ESCs have a current limiter on it? If yours does then try turning it up. For example I keep mine at 20 to 40% power which only limits the take off rate not the top end. Tire sizes can make a very slight difference in performance and the overall vehicle weight to horsepower ratio makes a BIG difference. Your car may weigh more than his. Bearings verse bushings maybe. Or it could be a combination of things.

Well, I know both of those ESCs and neither of them have current limiters. I think they're reversing ESCs. No matter. I think one reason the TL01 may be quicker off the line is because of it's solid drive shaft which allows for all the power to be delivered to the wheels more quickly. I could be wrong, but that's my guess.

I tend to agree with Project TL01. That's one of the major pluses of a TL01, the solid drive shaft which delivers instant power.

There are no current limiters on either ESC. I forgot to mention that I have full bearings and he has bushings throughout. We are running the same batteries too. Maybe the driveshaft does it. I could always get a new motor since my esc can handle 17 turns and his can only handle stockers, but I'll feel like i've cheated for speed. Is the 01 really faster than the 03, or is mine just defective...

I would check that everything on your 03 is sping freely. Check for binding anywhere. Make sure your belt is at the right tension. Make sure your gears are lubed. Ummm.... did you get your cars at the same time?

Dose shaft drive really make that much difference?

I have noticed that my TLO1 does have very good acceleration

The TL01 is an extremely light car with very few gear meshes. Because of that it has very little drag in the drive trane so it's acceleration is better.
