About 7 or 8 years ago I got into racing pan cars on carpet ovals. I did it for a few years and then gave it up. I have been thinking alot about puting my car back together. I have an old Hyperdrive that is so obsolete it is not even funny. They quit making parts for it before I even quit racing aprox 5 years ago. It is a very simple desing which makes it easy to fabricate parts for it when needed. My problem lies with my battries and motor. Mine have been sitting so long that they are junk. I used to know what to look for when buying batts. but now I have no clue. Can someone help me out a little and explain the differences between batts. now days? Any info would help and be greatly appriciated.

For serious racing you are going to want to invest in either good matched packs of 2000mah or 2400mah NiCd batteries, or 3000mah NiMH batteries.
The NiCd's will provide more punch and power and are easier to maintain and charge.
The NiMH's are relatively new on the market still. They don't seem to deliver as much punch, but they do offer a little longer runtime (important in oval racing), and a consistent amp delivery throughout their discharge cycle. The downside is that, you require a certain type of charger to prevent damaging the batteries, and the exact science of maintaining them isn't exactly known yet.
Personally, I use the 2000mah & 2400mah NiCD's. The 3000 NiMh's are pretty expensive, and I haven't heard any good reports on them from people that have been using them for awhile now.
Motors are pretty easy. Decide whether you want stock or mod, and go from there. I usually buy the Fantom brand. I like their mod motors because you can just buy one motor and then use the same can for any of their other mod comm's. Also, I have a 3 year old Fantom stock motor that still has just as much power as my brand new Trinity P2K stock.
Anyway, I'm sure you may get wildly differing opinions, especially about the batteries. These are just my opinions and what I use. Hope I've helped a little.
