Traxxas???

I think you are at the right age...I am 15 and plan on getting a Traxxas Electric Rustler.I think it is a good starter truck....But if you want to race go with a losi or triple x
Just dont get started in this hobby w/out a few hundred dollars saved up to get a drivable truck that wont let you down.

I'm 12 I started when i was 11. I have a XXX-T. But....I'm sure a lot of people my age have a XXX-T. But there parents but them and do all the work. When they come back from the pits they'll go wash there tires came back and watch the races. Wihle there parents work on there car. But my parents don't even touch my car. The only thing they do is mabey a little soldering and thats all.
So........I think that you will do fine. Get a Traxxas or a used Team losi XX-T or XX.

Yes, start your hobby now!! Save up some money, and go with an offroad vehicle. I started with a pan car, which was fun, but I could only race on the street where it was perfectly smooth, and that got kinda boring.

If your parents want to help, tell them to get their own car! Do what you gotta do with your car!

Start now, while you have time to enjoy it and experiment with it. When you are older and have more responsibilities the love you foster now will carry through, and the experience you gain, will help to make repairs and setup adjustments quicker. Go with an off road or a rally vehicle. My personal suggestion is an HPI RS4 MT Electric. It is a tough truck that runs great off-road and you can lower it in a matter of minutes to an on-road configuration that handles great on the pavement race track near me. Look at your LHS and make sure that they carry spare parts before you buy anything. If you get something that nobody carries parts for, you will spend a lot of time waiting for mail order parts to come when you break things, and you will break things. In talking to other people on the boards it seems that most LHS's carry a good supply of parts for most Associated, Losi, HPI, Tamiya, and Traxxas models.

What do you mean 4 feet in the air is not what you meant by "off-road"?

i sarted out with r/c 2 years ago when i was 12, i found the nearest track and first watched a whole race, then at the end of the day a driver let me run his car and fisish off a battery pack, i loved it, i wanted to race when i got my car so they reccomended to me a xxt-cr and duster II and airtronics radio, and what type of motor to run ,the people at the track are the most helpful, and when i first raced i had only one battery and some of the guys let me borrow a pack. any way if there is a nearby track go to it and ask them for some reccomendations if yur gonna race.

oh yeah man. your at a perfect age to start. if your parents argue with you, say that its your money and you think it would be really good for you(i know it was for me).one day i decided to pick up a radio control car action issue and it sounded really cool.I decided on what i wanted and asked for it for christmas.I'm 15 and i just got alot of hop ups for it yesterday(Trinty Speed Gems 2 Ruby motor, Duratrax ball bearings, and a novak rooster esc) My car(Tamiya Wild Willy 2) is now a rocket!!
go with an offroad car(thats just my opinion)

NGWT3(NewGuyWithT3)-I started off with a RTR electric Rustler when I was 10, I am now 14 and beat some "A" main drivers. I do EVERYTHING myself with only Christmas and B-Day donations. I do everything there is to RC and am going to make a "Project E-Maxx" which I will sent to RCCA and "***hopfully***" have it done in May and have it in the June/July issue (unless someone beats me to it http://www.rccaraction.com/ubb/frown.gif. 4 years and im ready to go pro first season of next year. I mean theres a 13 year old that beat all the National level drivers in qualifying, too young??? You decide. R/C is a great hobby which helps you develop coordination (look it up), mechanics, learn to build and model things, and see how things work. Hey, it may be your profession when you grow up, and it looks good on your resume pronounced "resimay" (look it up) saying you've been into/working on cars since 11. There is no limit to the imagination, and if you work hard enough and have the determination (look it up), your gauranteed to get what you want.

You must always push the limits. Because if you never fail, you will never succeed.

Crashing is an art of driving that goes bad in result in human or mechanical error.

Thank you for the information. I'll talk to my mom (my parents hate the idea).

P.S. Is the T3 any good? I'm really interested in it thanks! http://www.rccaraction.com/ubb/smile.gif

Start early. I got a Tamiya falcon when I was 6 and drove it every day for hours on end. I loved that thing! Got an RC-10 Team Car when I was 10 and started racing that year. Been hooked ever since. As an ex-kid (well, I guess I still am, I'm 22, and still a kid at heart), I have to say this is about the best way to learn mechanical fundamentals and physics of a car while providing hands on experience that's not too overwhelming but still demanding. Once you start racing you learn a lot about suspension dynamics in a hurry.

It's never too young to start. If your index finger will reach the throttle trigger, go for it!

Also, it's great for job motivation... I got my first job to pay for my desire for more hop-up parts! Nothing motivates you like the promise of new toys! =)

To answer your question, yes the T3 is a great truck...A little advice from someone who has been there...start with a stock motor untill you get the hang of what your truck (or car) can do...when I was 10 I had to replace the lower chassis and 4 sets of front wheels on a Kyosho Ultima because I wanted to go as fast as possible in the shortest amount of time....

Anyways...good luck with whatever purchase you decide to make.

I got started when I was 7 or 8, and I'm now 14. I started with an RC10T which I still have and still run all of the time.

If it's broken don't look at me.

R/C isn't a hobby,
or a way of life
IT'S AN OBSESSION!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm 13. And I own a rc10gt factory team. I's my first truck and I love it! My mom realy didn't think to much of the idea at first, but now she goes to every race. My dad kinda jump at the idea when I first mentioned it. Now he likes it as much as me. The key is to be persistant. I beged and pleaded and pushed the idea on them for 2 years. Then I bought a rc car magazine. And then after a year (mostly for saving) they let me get it. Since my dad is so invoved in it as me, he pays half for all the exspenses. Which is a big help. I hope this helped you.

I'm 13 almost 14 I just started R/C About 3 months ago but have studied it for like 5 years! It took forever for my parents to buy me a R/C by then I had enough money saved up to buy my own, So they bought me my Tamiya M-01 and I bought a rtr rustler which was later disposed of due to not being fast at all. So I think 8+ is the perfect age to start becasue you start understanding the value of higher priced things like R/C. But thats just my opinion, Good luck with your R/C NGWT3.

Later,
