I am getting a kit soon and I want to upgrade motors and the esc right off the batt. What setup would be the cheapest. I am looking for somthing with a little more speed and tourque over stock, and also longer runtimes. would a dual esc setup work well? what are good cheap motors?

get a couple of speed gems mods, look in the 17 turn range. as for the esc, look for something like a super rooster, or maybe dual roosters. only prob with the dual roosters is you have to run 2 batteries

Connect them via a y harness

just get a Novak super duty XR esc it handles single and dual motors or a traxxas e-maxx esc they work good but i think the novak esc works with one or two batteries

if you are going to invest in this truck you may want to try an esc made to handle 14.4v like the Novak EVX, super duty, or Mtroniks super Etruck. then you can use the Multiplex Permax 600 7.2V Motors from Tower hobbies: http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXEXU3&P=ML
they are the great alternative to the Traxxas Titan motors that come in the E-maxx, and at $8.50/ea. you cant really go wrong - they are even better than the titans.

He may not want to run dual batteries for a 14.4v system. A super duty XR, is pretty expensive, if you just want to run it on 7.2v. If he's going to run a 7.2v motors, like a Trinity Speedgems, you might want to look for a Super Rooster, some hobbyshops still have them in stock. Or run two lower power ESC's on a single pack.
Watch E-bay for a used Super Rooster or a Tekin Titan.

I've been running dual rooster reversables with my TXT-1, except I'm using two Reedy 12 turn modified motors. I've had the truck for three years now, and I still haven't broken in the motors because the torque keeps breaking the truck
apart. If you decide to do the same, expect to spend lots of money buying upgrade parts. Right now I'm trying to figure out how to keep the suspension from pulling itself apart.

well for one, the rooster is only rated to 15 turns. 12 turn is quite a bit of motor for a txt-1. logic would also say that beacuase your using dual roosters, youre using dual packs. 14.4v is also alot of power for the txt-1

14.4v may be a lot of power for a "stock" TXT-1... i run a hacker b50 8L on 14.4v, but it definately is not stock ;)

There is only one correct answer to performance :D

I've had no problems with the ESC's or the motors. The big problem I'm having is with the suspension components... The torque is tearing the truck apart.

torque is related to the motors though. it doesn't come from anywhere else. novak has an amazing product, which is probably why you havent smoked the esc yet. be warned tho

With dual motors nothing is really going to be cheap, but cheaper would be a super rooster and 2 19 turn speed gems wired in series or parallel depending on if you want run time or power. It shows you how in the super rooster manual.
