So, what are some opinions on the best mod motors out there? Reedy Ti, orion, peak, fantom, etc, etc.

Trinity Monsters of Touring. Sure, they won't hold up with hand-wound modifieds, but for the price, they are an excellent, and fast, alternative.

I have no idea. I stick with stock...birdman motors are blazing fast.

Tough to say which is best. It all matters what you want. What's more important than a name or brand is the setup. A cheap machine wound mod with a good setup will walk away from a D4 with a bad setup.
I recently tried an Integy (atlas) hand wound 12D. This motor was weak and fragile until I changed brushes, and turned the comm down to .290. Now it's a screamer.
So, forget brand... it's all in the setup and control.

They are all about the same if talking hand wound motors against hand wound motors, but if you put a hand wound mod motor against a machine wound mod there is a prety big difference, not so much when the motors are new but over time the machine wound motor will wear out a lot faster, so if you are going to race with it I would go with a hand wound but if you are just going to backyard bash and just want more speed go with a machine wound motor, I have a Reedy 12x2 hand wound motor and with the slipper clutch tight on RC10T3FT it will pull wheelies on the assphalt it is prety cool to watch. :D

It also depends on what you are racing, and where, and against who, etc.. if you don't need to spend the cash on the hand wound to run with the others, then I'd say dont. Chances are that 80% of the people you are running against are running machine winds.

Never again, rustlerboy! http://www.plauder-smilies.com/eviltongue.gif I know it all comes down to set-up and driver skill, but what I want is opinions on(with all other components being equal) what motor will perform the best, or are they all the same.!?

That's quite possible. The only reason why I run hand-wounds is because all of my friends in mod also run hand-wounds, & I do occaisionally go to big races, where I need every ounce of power I can get. But for most, you can get very good service out of a machine-wound, & as long as you take very good care of it(just like hand-wounds) it should serve you well for a good while. As for the wind, just ask around your local tracks to get a good idea which ones everyone seems to get results with, & try one in that range..... :)

All that being said, though, I just bought a Reedy Ti-based 13x2, & after setting it up to my liking, it REALLY screams. It's putting out more raw torque & power than any 13 turn I've ever seen(this one was from Lightspeed, but a Fantom should every bit as good).....

Thanks grizz, that's what I was looking for. I suspected the ti can/arm combo or versions of it were the gnarliest out. Are the dyno numbers off the chart?

Well, I can only speak for mine(off my dyno's numbers), but on my Robitronics at 7.5 volts, it put out 223 watts peak power, peak torque is 268.7Nmm(higher than any mod I've ever tested) & top end at 38,651rpm which took 5.46 seconds to reach it. Those are only a few numbers to give(you really have to look at everything to compare motors), but it does give you an idea of just how stout this thing is for a 13 turn. As a means of comparison, my old 13(a D3.5 based motor) managed about 199 Watts, 219 Nmm of torque & topped out at about 39,955rpm under the same conditions(& was just as new when I tested it). I still haven't had a chance yet to put the new motor in my TC3, but I should get the chance soon, & I can't wait..... :)
