What does everybody think about the brushless motors? Are they gonna be legal in modified classes or have there own class. I think they are very interesting and will probably get one when there is a class for them. Plus does anybody know how much they run $$$$$ and the cost of the new ESC that runs them?

there is a company that is already making them...
I can't rember who or for what purpose
i think boats???or cars???anyway...
I thought I saw $$$ in the $250-$350 range...
not bad considering you'll get
A motor & speed con
with reverse that can be disabled...
rotation won't be an issue any more
neither will timing...
the question now becomes how many diffrent cans/winds will they offer...
like any thing new it will be cried FOUL
cause no one but people with $$ can afford them But if they are running MOD the $$ is already moving...

I believe the company you are talking about is Aveox, they have made brushless motors for a long time.

I wouldn't expect to see a class at ROAR sanctioned events for a while after the brushless motors first come out. I don't much care about them honestly. When I can race a brushless class at any track I go to, and when I open up my issue of RCCA and see that Kinwald or Francis or whoever else won the Brushless Modified Class at the Nats, I'll get interested :)

I got the money, but I'm not even thinking of racing, so I don't know. Could be a fun project.

Brushless motors are capable of way more speed and less maintance. Because of the lack of brushes, you dont have to cut the comm, or get new brushes. Seriouse R/Cers are switching out there 2 E-Maxx motors and putting 1(yes one) brushless in there place and traveling speeds of over 45 mph.

I would buy one just for the low mataintence factor...
in my "play" cars I let brushes go down till they cant any more...
in my "race" cars, it is alot of time to stay up with the pack (mostly com maintenence)
if they put out like they want people to belive they will then they will be a BIG hit.
soon people will be buying $60 rare earth magnet armatures and checking there gaus after races...LOL

I think brushless motors are a great idea. I for one hate the unknown quantity of whether your motor's comm is going to crap out in the middle of a race - and it's happened to me a couple of times. New cut, new brushes, 2 races later - burn out.
They should be able to go into mod class immediately - doesn't mod class mean you can do anything to the motor (including turning it inside out)?

With Novak putting in so much time, money and effort to develop a brushless motor and ESC, you can bet your backside that they will be pushing to have them sanctioned. Kinwald is sponsored by Novak, you can bet he'll be at least trying out their new motors already.

The other side of the coin with sanctioning is that it's Catch 22 - that is, ROAR or whoever aren't going to sanction until they hear a lot of people screaming for it. People aren't going to invest until it's sanctioned - Catch 22.

Either way I think we'll be hearing a lot more about brushless.....

Almost maintenance free. Extended run times. OH, I want one BAD!

Even though we know the capabilities of the Aveox motors, Novak may be different. I doubt ROAR will allow brushless motors that will easily shred brushed motors, which is probably one of the reasons Aveox isnt legal. Novak may "tone down" the BL motors, so they can offer them in certain "winds;" or power equal to the # of turn motor in brushes. The racing will be more fair (how many brushed motors do you know can go 100mph in a TC3?). Novak may just build this so that they are equal to in RPM, or torque as the brushed counter-parts, just so ROAR will approve. Only Novak knows what they want, and are going to do.

couldn't they just create a class for brushless motors?

wjj, I think you hit it right on. A new class is probably going to happen. I doubt ROAR will allow the new motors into the mainstream... at least not at first. A modified motor cannot cost more than 95 dollars, and a stock is 45 I believe. There's nothing in the rules about having to buy another speed control WITH the motor. So far from what I've heard, it's not worth it. Good idea... but needs more work.

A new class is probably more likely, but that will only slow down their adoption. It will take some time before enough people at your local track shell out the big bucks.

Good marketing and concept though.

Lets Be Realistic !!!
ROAR only counts if you play by there dumb rules...
as a racer in a local club in an area where the turn out is 10-20 people for any given class
if WE want 3phase motors...
WE WILL have them
you should too !!!
the benifets well out weigh the neg...
the coolest now is the Maxx classes now running...Tmaxx & Emaxx same time
5 min heats
15 min main
the pit stop slows the Emaxx right down
suprisingly it is pretty fair.
once you figure that Traxxas is STUPID! for puting 27mghz in kits still and you swap it out for 75mghz you can get a 10 truck race...
SWEEEEET!!!

yup.... put me on the Novak list as well.... can't wait for'em to hit the shelves...

i'll pass on the model tech, hacker and aveox motors... but i'll pop for the Novak for sure....

peace out.... :)

I didn't understand you, but was that about brushless motors? Looked like it was about Traxxas...
