Ok. I was taking my gearbox apart on my XXXT tonight trying to figgur out a way to lock the diff right. Well when I went to put it back together, the nut(screw) would not tightn up. So I tried and tried to figgur out what was causing the problem. I couldnt! I have rebuilt this thing soooo many times tonight that im about to have a nerves brake-down. Why why why why...

I thought it might tightn up when I had it back in and the cvd's in the out drives and the suspension hooked back up ( have to take the suspension loose to let the cvd's pop out ), and then I would tightn it by holding the other tire and tightning the screw. No sir! It just keeps turning and turning, never tightning up! So now when I put it on the ground, and give it throtle, it just spins the gears inside and slips. Never turning the tires. PLEASE HELP!

I'm guessing you're talking about the diff not getting tighter. This happens when you over tighten the diff, and strip the plastic nut carrier (#3078). If you order a new one ..it should come with six more washers with the carrier. Use all of them, old and new washers, when you rebuild. Don't over tighten it though. :) The added washers will give you a little more consistant diff rebuilds.

If you want to lock the diff, modify the rings, gear and outdrives. The diff is made to be a diff. Adjusted, and not locked.

Thanks. I was guessing that I had over tighnted it, and striped it. How much does that thing cost? It shouldnt be much should it?

Speaking from experience, the part that does the same function on a T3 is about 3 bucks. Shouldn't be that expensive.

I reccomend you stick with only the stock # of washers and fix the stripped nut-carrier by using two of the little nuts inside. Yes, stack two little nuts inside the plastic carrier and the Thrust screw will tighten without spinning the nuts. I've been doing it in my XXXT for a while...

You see, I bought a new nut-carrier and put a new nut in it, and it slipped/stripped the first time! That's when I figured out that using two nuts is the solution. If you use more than the 6 stock washers, the screw might not poke far enough to engage the second nut, so just use 6 washers. Try it, it works!
