... I don't think I can wait to see the R/C police with radar guns!

It may be due to the "fun runners" that have no clue as to what ''Responsible Boating" means. Several years back, Washington State enacted laws specific to the "Jetski" type watercraft. This was prompted by several injuries and property damage caused by Jetski riders "hot-dogging" without thinking about the repercussions. Paraphrasing the law, it's illegal to operate a "PWC" within a certain distance to the shore, public swimming areas, or without a "skier" styled life jacket(I think this is age dependant). On the R/C side, there is a beautiful lake just north of downtown Seattle that used to be the site of boat racing from tether-boats to limited outboard hydros. Due to the local residents complaints about noise and the lake being polluted by engine oil, the lake is now restricted to SAILBOATS ONLY. Just two possible causes, if the rumor is true.

A park in California had this problem and put a bunch of limits in place as far as speed and noise goes. The dB limit was ridiculous as ambient noise from traffic was louder than what they required for boats.
The law should only affect public waters and not privately owned water if it is true. Here in Michigan we don't have that problem. I can run pretty much anywhere that I want but if I set up buoys for a course, I have to get a Regatta permit from the Dept. of Natural Resources just as if I were holding a fishing tournament or full-sized boat race. I only run my boats where I safely can. If there are fishermen, swimmers or waterfowl on the water, I go elsewhere. It's no big deal for me as I have several places to run at within a few miles of my home.
If the law were enacted, the police usually have better things to do that to sit around radaring your boats. The DNR showed up one day at a lake we were running at and we asked them to get out their radar gun and seen if they could tell us how fast we were going. They had trouble trying to hit the boats, even a 7.5 OB tunnel that has a high enough profile that they should have been able to get a reading from.

Someone posted this on another forum.

http://www.gencourt.state.nh.us/legislation/2006/hb1210.html

I boat there every summer both real and rc and can tell you there are maybe 20 rc boat on this huge 30mile lake. The problem up there is, in the dead of winter the politications have nothing better to do than figure out laws to bother the out of state vacationers.

So you saying all "fun runners" have no clue.
Been fun running with a few races here and there for 20+ years with not one injury from a r\c boat.
Do you ever run just for fun?

How about "inexperienced boaters" instead of "fun runners".

Most of the people I refer to as fun runners are solo, and yes, normally inexperienced. Sorry if I made that sound like an all encompassing comment. And yes, I have run for the fun of it. That was years ago, when I was young and stupid. I destroyed props, hulls, engines and radio gear. I was just lucky I didn't hurt myself too. Since I run primarily scale hydros, solo running isn't an option anymore.

So running for the fun of it or solo is stupid?

Running for the fun of it is fine but I never run alone just in case something does happen where I need help.

They can't stop illegal immigration but they will regulate speeds of model boats?

HA! Well said!!

Its the fed government that needs to get their act together!!

In New Hampshire they had a Sheriff arresting illegals for trespassing! I was loving that!

I can respect that. Good idea too...

This bill requires remote-controlled model boats to obey headway speed limitations.

Never seen a "remote" controll boat with a wire or IR that could break any speed limits. I do, however, have a few RADIO controled boats that could...

97TRAKIN, the stupid part was not knowing what I was doing and trying to run solo. As I said, I destroyed hulls, props, engines and radio gear. At the time I was also too young to know that it was stupid. I had to wreck two boats before I "got smart" and started looking for help. That was the best move I ever made, as I haven't destroyed a boat since.

headway, is that similar to 'slow no wake' restrictions?

That's what I was wondering. "Remotely-controlled" boats could mean a lot of things. If you see what is on the market for toy cars, a remotely operated car may have a cord attached using a hand-held battery pack and switches to run the vehicle. Radio controlled is another matter.

Ron I would say tickets will be given for any rc boat, no matter how its controlled.

I was ticketed for fishing in NH when I was tossing the hook out so my 3 year old didn't hook someone else on the dock trying to. He was reeling it and and pulling the fish in. They are tough up there!

But they don't mind 30-50' speed boats traveling 30-50mph in the DARK! That's right. I stay on the lake for vacation and the boats come screaming by in the pitch black night. Seems like someone gets killed every summer at night.

A city to the north of me, Grand Rapids, has outlawed R/C boat running inside the city limits. I happened to be at a boat race that I think was the reason why this law went into effect. Some genius ran his gas 'rigger right through a flock of ducks during mill time. I have the incident on videotape. One person who was at the races father was a retired DNR officer. She contacted everyone that she could, the DNR, Kent County Sheriff's Dept. and the Grand Rapids police as the host club tried to cover it up to save their butts.
Now when I drive up there to run, we have to go outside the city to run on private property.

well, my tunnel and my electric hydo both beat the crap out of 45mph...good thing i'm not in NH! i would only be allowed to run my 19 turn mono. it would really suck to live there once i finish my 24 cell 'rigger (yeah baby...serious SAW boat in the works)!!! VIVA WISCONSIN!

hey...it may not be the greatest place but we've got plenty of beer to keep us busy during the non-boating months...especially now that i make my own :D
