View Full Version : Pissed at Duratrax BX

Well, This is the first time I've been this angry with an r/c. I've owned a Duratrax BX buggy for about a year. I run this thing so hard with stock electronics, except a Trinity Monster stock pro. Me and my brother jump our cars just like anyone else that has a buggy or monster truck. This winter, I decided to rebuild the car. When I took the tranny off the car, I was shocked to find the tranny plastic case was broken, with about a half inch of plastic gone around a hole for the screw.
So.....I went to the LHS and found the replacement part. Well, when i get home...I find out that the bearings don't fit in this thing. I had to pound them in, but then the tranny didnt turn. So, I ended up just glueing the plastic back on to the broken part and run it. I was so pissed. Now, my chassis makes an even worse clicking noise.
I now it is the right part....so Im just confused and pissed. Looks like I'm might just sell it on ebay to get rid of it and get the re-release of the lunchbox....that is a fun car to drive :D
Sorry for my long story......but, does anyone know what i can do to? Has this happened to anyone else before?

I've snapped several transmission cases on my MF2- that doesn't make it a bad car.....stuff breaks.

stay away from those entry level brands offered at hobby people like associated, traxxas, duratrax, and xtm. that's tuff man. sorry to hear.
stick to OS, nova rossi, rb, kyosho, mugen, jammin, gs, xray, and ofna. you'll be better off in the long term with pro level kits. price difference is suprisingly minimal.
an associated nitro gt is like $289, an RTR 1/8th scale ofna lx pro is only $259.

you can also use the kit blown apart manual when purchasing parts. it will assure you get the exact product number when you buy a replacement part.
it's basically a 2 page illustration of your vehicle blown apart, with all part numbers and all bolts/screw sizes, shims, and fittings.

Well, thank you for your help. I know I sound like a newb or something, but I race a Xray FK04(and do pretty good), and fix all my cars on my own. I'm just pissed because the bearings do not even fit into the NEW plastic tranny pieces. This isn't the first time Ive been mad at my BX, its broke in strange places when I didnt even run it hard.....maybe I'm use to Tamiya and Xray durability and quality.

welcome to the world of "its a machine- it will fail".........
ran it so hard, and re-build this winter? hmmmm, ok, let me take a wild stab at this: all summer and fall this thing got the ever living snot driven out of it, and now it fails? hit a brick with a hammer really hard, it will break, hit it lightly with same hammer, it will STILL break, just not as soon. So, the car routinely got 4-6 of air under it, and it didnt break, but driving over a curb, and it did , lets say.....the curb was the last "tap" from the hammer, so to speak.just because it didnt break when you were driving it hard, didnt mean it didnt stress the part. i beat my stampede and e-maxx hard too, and when they fail, even if i was "taking it easy", i know why. fatigue does wonderful things to parts.like rust on a car...you may not see it at first, but its there.
oh, did i mention? peg the throttle for hours on end on a nova-rossi and it WILL fail too. nothing is indestructible.

I'm pissed because my new part does not work for the car, the correct replacement part. Im not stupid and I know cars break. I've broken my tc3 many times(well, sold it because of Xray) and I loved that car.
Maybe your definition of rebuild is different than mine, but I did not go that long without looking my cars over(I look at them after every run). I just decided to take every part off and inspect for damage that you cannot see unless its taken apart. Thats when I found the broken tranny.

Its alright...no worries, and thanks for the nice comment.
I found a BX on ebay without a Tranny(but rtr, as far as electronics) going for $20. Looks like I could make more than a dollar.
