I Just Got a Kyosho Atomic Force 17Tx2 Motor for My Tamiya 4wd Buggy. I have the Stock 21T pinion gear. However I was hoping to find out any better gears to use. I have a 16T, 17T, 19T and a 23T, to play with. This buggy is used on Pavement, grass dirt Ect. Thanks for all your help

Try lowering to 19t, see what happens, and how it runs.

Throttle Happy may be right , but I would go a little lower to start with, maybe to 17 tooth, & see if it works. You can always gear it up but you don't want to overheat it to start with. If it runs cool with the 17 then go up a little at a time until it starts to get too warm. I think you should be able to hold your finger on it comfortably after about 5 minutes of running. Hope this helps. :)

It's all about tempurature.
After completing a pack the motor should be pretty warm (even hot), but it should not be smelly, smoking, etc :p
Another good way to see if you are over gearing is to look at the color of the brushes. Brushes that have turned a purple looking color have been abused. Usually by over gearing.
My suggestion is to put one of the smallest pinions on and make a run, if you can KEEP you finger on the motor you can gear up a notch.
I am always on the safe side though as motors are expensive ;)
you may also consider the surface you are running on. If just mesing around on pavement, you can gear taller than if you are playing in sand, grass, or fluffy dirt. These suraces cause the motor to work harder and get hotter.
Again, it's all about heat !
