Hey, Ibslick.
if you'r new to Rc's or starting it's recommended to get an electirc and then as you get more experienced you can begin to upgrade it.Then when you get more Experienced enough you'l be able to get a gas powered. Then once you have a gas powered it's gonna be like a breeze knowing what to do when somthing goes wron or it doesn't wanna start, cause you'l have experience. :D

Hi All, I am in the market for an RC car. I see that there are Nitro and Electric powered ones. I am wondering what the pro's and con's of the electric ones are?? One other thing of interest is which needs more maintence Nitro or Electric?
It will get run under pretty harsh terrain if that has any influence on it. Also I gues I should mention I am looking for RC Trucks. Any input would be greatly appreciated!! Thanks ibslick16@aol.com

im gussing cause ure new that u want a rtr. I personally dont have a gas, but relatives do, and they can be pesky sometimes, u have to break in the engine, and use oils and stuff. Electrics dont need that much. All u really have to do is make sure you run your pack down as far as u can, that helps the battery sustain life. Are u gonna race or just bash it around? Cause for almost out of the box racing, and RC10T3 would work fine, im talking aobut the RTR version. If u r just gonna bash around, then there are some cheap rts, primarily The Rustler, and the Ultima ep sport. Hope this helps.

well here it is,
nitro powered trucks would be hard to maintain and too complex for someone who is just starting r/c. even though nitro powered cars are very fun and very authentic to the real thing they are a big hassel if it is your first car. You will find yourself sending it back to the company thinking it is broken when really it is just not tuned right. But if your just going into things go for an electric. they do the same thing as a nitro powered car or truck they just have a bit more speed but not much.they are much easier to maintain and they are silent but deadly. They are just as fun as a nitro for half the price. so in my opinion go for the electric or else you will be finding yourself with a broken down 400.00$ car in your garage with nothing to do with it.
but that is just my opinion if you are good with engines already and that kinda stuff, GO for the nitro!
the good electric trucks are the team associated t3 and the losi xxxt.
i would recommend to build it yourself!
good luck and happy spending!

First of all I wouldn't recommend getting an RTR as your first hobby level R/C car or truck unless you are just totally not mechanically inclined. The reason for this is you need to know how to fix things when, not if, they break and I don't think most RTRs come with the most comprehensive instructions.
Second, electric is what I always suggest as a beginner R/C car. They are just more user friendly for beginners. That isn't to say better but just easier to maintain.
Nitro vs. Electric is a topic that brings out a somewhat heated debate from both sides of the coin. There isn't any magical formula that can be applied to answer which one is better. In my opinion it is a lot like comparing apples and oranges, they are both fruit but beyond that they differ.
Just my thoughts,
Jerry
For your first RC truck.
Forget nitro - too tricky
Forget RTR - low quality
Buy a 2nd hand RC10 T3 electric truck or Losi truck - best option
If your are a newbie like me i say start with nitro its alot more fun and enjoyable and is a natuarl progress from full size vehicles. turning a needle left or right is far more natural than turning a comm on an motor, you pratically have to be a electrical engineer to maintain an electric motor. i do have both (tc3,xxxnt) i got the tc3 because its the best looking touring car chassis in the world, but there is nothing like nitro because you can drive for hours on end like i do.

RC10T3 basic kit, buy low, upgrade later, learn how to build and determine your interest level in the process. If you love it, upgrade. If you decide you aren't into it ebay! Thank you.

Those little nitro engines are finicky, guys constantly fiddle with them to keep them running right, lots of frustration for a beginner if you don't have an experienced guy helping. Electrics you just plug it in and go. Yeah, you have to do a little motor maintenance, but changing brushes and using a comm stick every once in a while isn't a big deal. You can't beat the speed and runtime of a gas car though, they're cool, I'm just saying figure out the electrics first, the transition to gas will be much smoother.
