Why dont you just run the battery out completly, it works fine and if you have a nickle metal hydride they run then stop dead at empty so you really dont need them.

sometimes I dont have time to finish the pack off, so a discharger would be nice. also I dont run nickle metal hydride.

Well you should be able to take 5 dc light bulbs and run a wire to all the negatives and a positives to all the positives on the bulbs. It help to use red wire for poitive and black for negitive. Then get the opposite connector of your battery and place it on the battery connector to determine which is positive and which is negitive. once you know put the proper one to the wires on the bulbs. then it should discharge. If I am incorrect someone tell me because i very well could be but that should work

http://www.nascart.com

They had a bunch of tutorials, including a discharger and auto cut-off, but the site is down right now (at least, I hope it's only a little downtime).

Take a look at the Racer's Edge bulb discharger. It comes assembled in two versions, one with cutoff and one without. The auto-cutoff prevents it from over discharging the cells.

Deans also makes a bulb discharger with the Deans Ultra plug already installed, but does not have a cutoff. The Deans also comes in a kit version with every thing you need other than solder & a soldering iron.

The link from earlier:

http://www.balakracing.com/bulb_discharger.htm

There's a link from that one to a fancy cutoff with a voltmeter and everything. There's also a simpler cutoff at:

http://moe.intelos.net/~rpm/Articles/Cutoff_Switch/cutoff_switch.html

And Dean's also makes an inline cutoff similar to the one above.

As for running the packs out in the car, I've read that it's not a good idea to purposely drain the battery in the car. I forget exactly why, so take that with a grain of salt.

I'm currently building a discharger and cutoff like the balakracing page one. It's not hard if you can handle a soldering iron.

yeah, a good adjustable soldering iron will help a load with the building of the bulb discharger;)

You guys are nuts with your "fancy" dischargers. Dischargers schmischargers. I just suck a big sip of water into my mouth and hold the battery ends against my braces. When my mollars stop jiggling and I can see straight again, I know the pack is discharged.

I made my name Strange Desires on the old board when we where able to change our screen names (for about a week, then Steve turned it off  ) Now that we switched over to this board my name went back to what I origanaly registered under. I had a Strange Desires acount but I messed it up, I cant remember what I did. I need to email steve and ask him if he can change my name back, but Ill wait. He is probably flooded with emails since the board change (if he wasnt before)

(too bad sigs were turned off, that way I wouldnt have to write this in)

I use the 1157 bulbs, but I soldered 10 sockets onto the brass bars. That way I can remove bulbs to discharge at a lower rate for my 4 cell packs.

where did you get the sockets?
