I was looking at the team orion site...whats the difference between laydown and standup springs?

The laydown springs will have a bend in the them to keep the spring from getting bunched up.
Here is a pic of a Reedy laydown spring. Note the bend:

ok thanks, so what type of springs are used in the trinity and reedy motors, and are there specific brushes for the type of springs as well?

Well, if the motor is laydown, it uses laydown springs.
There are fewer laydown motors than there are stand up motors.
There is no specific spring for each brand.
There are no specific springs for any given brush, although there are general recommendations, such as you should not put a super heavy spring on a cut brush (half height).
The primary differences between brush springs are:
1) Stand up or lay down
2) Spring stiffness, or the amount of presure it applies to the brush.

I have found that heavy springs work fairly well in almost anything except 4 cell carpet.
Maybe not work the *best* in every circumstance, but they will work well.
Usually though, you are going to want to direct replace your springs with whatever came on your motor in the first place.
