View Full Version : Need advice on tires for original rc10, Jeepinator help!

I Have the original rc10, and want to get a set of street rims and tires, as well as a body. I have been keeping her on the street since getting the engine running again, and wanted to have both on and off road body and tires. The on-road body I have found is the 6162 by associated, I am pretty sure this will fit the original rc10. As far as finding original part numbers, its been a real bear. Associated has the catalog online, but everything I am wanting is by third party companies like RPM.
So what are my options here. Again, I want rims and street tread tires. The size for the original was 2inch tires and the axle is 1/4 inch. Any ideas on where to look?

HPI makes the ss off road chrome that fits the old rc10's larger outdrives. The fronts have several adaptors that will fit many cars. These rims really look good. They are 2.0" and a sweet road tire for that rim is the pro-line "ROAD HAWGS 1". They are 2.0 inches as well and have a realistic tread design that will last. Don't get the "strikers", as they will wear out quickly and do not hook up as well either. The part number fot the rims is I believe HPI 2225? and 2275? front and rear respectivley. The tires is something like 1165 and 1145 or something like that. Sorry I don't have exact part numbers :D . Try pro-line's web site and HPI's also.

Thanks dude. I take it you have an oldie as well? Any other upgrades you can suggest that you found a big improvement with would be great.

Yep. I've got an "original". However, since I've had it since '89, I've done several things. 1: Stealth tranny. 2. Andy's a-arms( I still even have extra andy's. 3. Ball-bearing steering. 4. Graphite chassis. 5. CVD's( I don't know what brand, this was ten years ago). These were hop-ups I made over the years and still have all the original parts as well. I would say the easiest is the a-arms and they will widen the stance quite a bit. The stealth is critical, but if you must keep it original, then keep that old clunker in there. I have several old hot-rod bodies that I put on it and I also only drive it in the streets nowadays. I use bolink's EZ mount body-posts to mount these bodies(impala, vette, cobra, camaro, 54 ford pick-up) by drilling holes up front in the chassis in the steering servo area and mounting the posts there. For the back, I have an old mounting system that goes in place of the tranny brace, to which I applied some velcro, and then velcro to the inside trunk area of all the bodies. ;) Someday I will try to post some pics. I love taking it in the street for speed runs and being able to jump curbs at the same time.

Since I do not actually run mine, and haven't run one like it for years and years, I really can't help much. Sorry.

I am looking into upgrading the rims/tires/ steering very soon, and the combo you suggest looks good. Got another question though, as I am confused on which transmission I have. I thought the Stealth transmission came in the black gear box. I have recently seen a white "stealth" transmission, or at least thats what it was being called, and looks from the exterior exactly like mine, and Jeep's I think.
So how can I tell which one I have?

The stealth I have in my original is white. It was the very first generation stealth and I don't think it has changed much. The only thing I know is that they moved the spring from under the thrust washers/bearings to the other side of the diff(other outdrive). I haven't seen the original tranny assembled in a while but the stealth is way smaller for starters. Also, the edges of the tranny case are not as "squared off" on the stealth. And the spur/slipper is different as well. Anyone else???
