hey everyone, i need some help. i have a rustler and a bandit. both have oversized bearings, duratrax streak esc's(what does everyone think of these?) and right now speed gem motors in them. i race them competitively ata local track that has a long oval off road track. it also has a figure 8 off road track that has very tight corners and short straightaways. i am looking for a stock motor that would work for both cars and both tracks. i have looked at the kyosho ion storm, the tower speed stocker, trinity green machine3, and the reedy rage type r. any suggestions on what would work well? i have no clue when it comes to stock motors. HELP

i have a p2k pro in my xxt, i have been really impressed and happy with it. the only one that you mentioned that i know anything about is the tower speed stocker. a friend of mine has one in hit kyosha outrage, for $14, it is a nice motor, but will be out run pretty easily with my p2k.

The P2k is a great motor. Rebuilable, fast and reliable. I just cut the comm on mine and it's like a new motor! As far as stockers go, they're great. You might also check out Banzai Motors (http://www.banzaimotors.com). These guys make a great stock motor. I tried one of my buddy's who happens to be sponsored by Banzai and I loved it. I immediately ordered 2 of my own. They come totally dyno'd and ready to go. The guys there are top notch as well and are more than happy to answer any questions.

The P2K for the truck definatley, and the green 3 for the buggy when racing the oval, but with the 8, run a P2K also. The motors you mentioned are not all that good except for the green3. The ESC you have is fine, but there are better ones out there most definatley

Have any of you guys used the Reedy MVP's? How do you feel about them?

I just ran an MVP for the first time last night and it was da bomb. cleared the triple for the first time.
I bought the stock, not the pro, and narrowed the brushes. i also softened the negative spring by bending it, and softened the positive spring a little bit the same way. the comm looked pretty clean after breaking it in and running about 7 packs through it, so it should be a low maintenance motor.
It seems to match the P2K for torque, or come close, but has more RPMs. I geared it a little under normal P2K gearing.

So... would you recomend the MVP over the P2K then?? what gearing you using?

Well, I am very impressed with the MVP, but not quite so much out of the package. I tested a number of them right out of the package before I bought some, & they looked encouraging, but needed some work to reach what I'm used to. After a good deal of dyno tuning, I did finally get mine to beat the P2K's in top end & equal them all others(with also an edge in high-rpm torque, which is something of a weakness of the P2K), but no mattewr what I've tried, all of mine still run pretty darn hot. They are fast(the one in my 1/12 scale pan car is a rocket), but be aware of the exessive heat..... :)

Oh, also, in case it wasn't clear, while I do like my MVP's, I don't think I'm ready to recommend it to everyone just yet, P2K's are still much easier to live with & don't take as much work to make them fast... :)

thx. I am new to this and I will not be "tuning" my motor much, so I guess the P2K will be better for me. What does the P2K compare to the Paradox Pro???

What about Speed Gems, these are mods right? what pinion size should I use and how much of a decrease in runtime would they be?

As of Today I hate P2K's. I found out my brush hood was SMASHED. Maybe it was from heat, or a headon collision at the race. However, I cannot change one of the brushes anymore( the brushhood has closed it in lol). Anyways I guess it's back to some metal-head paradox's.... :(

The only problem I have ever heard about on the P2K is that the copper brush hood solder tabs tend to weaken prematurely with repeated soldering. I have never broken one but 2 of my boys have. This is not a major concern, you just have to be carefull how much pressure you put on it when soldering wires. ;)
A smashed brush hood sounds like "Murphys Law" working it's majic. :(

The p2k in my TC3 broke a solder tab, because the speedo is so close the wires are short and not very flexible.

Or you could just buy a new brush hood... ;)

I think that your best bet is the P2K Pro. This is also your best bang for your buck I think.

Well, I bent the brush hood back and now I can remove the brush so I guess I'll run my p2k again. It was definitely faster than my paradox pro.

I love my MVP, but Grizzbob is right, it needs tuning to get everything from it. P2Ks seem to work great right out of the box. Most of the people at my track are running them, especially in truck class. The MVPs are starting to catch on with the motorheads, though.
