hey guys,
Ive just bought my first non radioshack RC car ;) I have a Calsonic Skyline GT-R (TL-01) I've gotten a microtech ECO 2 ESC (the chepest one =P) and a acoms radio (also, the cheapest one) heh
I was just wondering if you guys have any tips for a newbie regarding the TL-01 chasis - also the essential upgrades i should opt for (ie shocks) to get me on par with the other racers
also -- i see everybody with the trigger/wheel controls and im running around with my cheap acoms 2 stick - are the trigger orientied controls much better?
Thanks
Justin
also - for some reason when i try to revsere my car i have to hold it for a while before it startes to reverse (like a second and a half) would this be acredited to my cheap ESC or something else?

The reverse thing is the ESC braking before it goes ibnto reverse. This waym when the car is moving you get bralking before reverse.
As for hop ups, the only one I got was the turnbuckle tie rods for the steering. they are much better. Depending on how much $$ you have to spend, bearings would be a good idea, as well as the oil filled shocks. The shocks arent really necessary, though. If you want to use a Modified motor, get the speed-tuned gears set, Its the only way to gear down far enough.

I definitely prefer the pistol radio over the two stick. It more accurately portrays the movements of the car (a wheel instead of the stick). I feel they are more comfortable to hold, and I prefer a trigger for fine-tuning speed.
Here is my suggested hop-up list (these are not necessary, though if you have money to spend on your car, these will help):
1. Bearings
2. High-capacity battery - 2400 mAH Ni-Cads (Do you have a peak charger? If not, go for it before the batteries)
Those two will lend themselves to less maintanence and more runtime (which = more fun).

Whats a peak charger? =)
I have a charger (it really old) it's called an AC/DC Auto Quick charger - made by Panda
it has a timer and a voltage meter (dont know what it does) it charges it 15 mins

a peak charger will charge your battery (duh) and stop when the battery has reached it's "peak charge". so you don't have to guess when the battery has reached it's peak

The tie rods are the linkage from the servo to the wheel hub. They turn the car. If yo get the turnbeckle ones they wont break as easily as the cheap plastic because they are metal, plus they allow you to adjust toe-in. Bearings replace the bushings that come with the kit. The bushings are the little white things you put any rotating pieces in. The ball bearings allow teh rotating pieces to move more freely and less power is lost. Plus bushings get crusty and eventually they wont move at all.
What part of Toronto are you from?

RC Champ, its indoor carpet. I go there sometimes, the guys there are really helpful. They race Touring Cars Friday nights at 7.
To find the info go to the track directory, and search for R/C Champ Raceway, and put Canada as the country.
Or look it up in the yellow pages they have a massive ad under hobby.
