After I got my D4 11x2 the batteries would get hot enough to melt and come un done.  . It's not how bad I solder though! The solder connection broke from a new *Deans Pigtail wire! What would make it so hot? The Timing on my motor is 17°. I run it for about 2-4 mins. If I touch the battery and speed control plug its VERY hot.

HELP!

Dude, like I said in another post, gear down that thing! It's pulling too much current for your system. THAT is the problem.

OK
How about 16-17/88???

Dude, maybe you should check your owner's manual for guidelines for gearing and things like that. Guess what it says? For an 11-turn modified motor, they suggest you start at 15/88. See what I've been saying? You were geared WAY too high before.

Lower the pinion about 4 teeth, like a 13 or 14 tooth. The D4 is hand wound and will be faster, and hotter. Gear down a LOT like Nairb said

Well it kinda depends on which ESC you have because an entry level ESC will get hotter much quicker than a proffesional ESC. Check your ESC manual it probably says what the limit is. But like everybody else said gearing down will help alot.

I have a Novak Dually, 2400 batts, and 11 turn motor.

The reason I started out with the 18/87 gearing was because thats what Adam drake said.

Thanks ALL!

Your batteries may also be heating up from the memory that they have built up just from running the amp draw of a stock motor.

As for the suggested gearing, when i had my D4 14x4, i used a 22 tooth pinion, and it was fine, it gave me the top end and the punch i needed, i mean, matt francis' runs in the 22-23 on the buggy with a 12 turn, so i guess that 17 should be ok.

XXXER- Is that for a truck?

Im going to try the stock setup. 15/88. Then one I thought up. 14/87. But still. I think I would like a 16/88. I ran my 9-turn at 13/88 and it was fast and not very hot!

That was buggy, but taller tires cannot account for 6 teeth under, there is something up, that is all i have to say

xxxer - in addition to the taller tires is the extra weight. buggy to truck is about a 4 tooth difference on our track, depending on class.

I guess you are right, I never thought about that. Hmmm.
