View Full Version : Is my Tekin Rebel partially toasted?

I have a Tekin Rebel, with an 12x2.
When it is under a load, especially when going from reverse to forward, it cuts out badly, I get very little power. Is my ESC to blame? or is it just interference from the motor to the reciever.
I have capacitors on the motor.
Any suggestions?
Thanks,
joe

uh if i recall... isnt the rebel a reverse esc? cause if it is... chanves are your esc CANT handle your 12x2... and it is OVERLOADING big time ya know!?!?!

I think you're overheating your ESC by using that hot mod motor. I thought the limit was 13 turns. The motor is drawing more amps than the ESC can handle. You better stop before you totally toast it.

Yes it is reversible, and it has an 11 turn limit. I've been running 12 turns for months.

I have a rebel too, I have put a 12 on it, but took it off. I have heard from various people that it doesn't handle anything hotter than like a 15 turn motor. this is a question for all here, If I were to lock out reverse could I run a hotter motor than a 15? would killing reverse allow the ESC to operate a 12 turn? I know that Tekin says it will handle an 11 turn motor, but I honestly wouldn't try it. try getting a stock motor and see if it runs fine with it, if it does then you found your problem in overloading, if it does the same stuff then I guess look elsewhere ;-) you didn't need me to tell you that though. I think they are right, its overloading the ESC, but we all may be wrong. good luck.

rc51racerx, it wouldn't help any. The thing is that ESCs have dedicated forward, brake, and reverse FETs. Shutting off reverse would shut off the reverse FETs, but it wouldn't spread the forward load out at all.

I was looking at my documentation.
On the front of the box, it says it will handle down to a 10 turn. In the manual, it says "using a motor with less than 11 turns (16 on the rebel) will generate excessive heat, without a significant increase in performance." So which is it?!!!? I wish I had known to stay away from Tekin before I bought it. When I bought the speed controller I was specifically looking for one that would handle down to an 11 turn, so I bought the one that said "10 TURN"
I guess I should be venting to Tekin, but I hear their customer service is pretty poor.
Thanks,
Joe
