i just completed my micro rs4. i tested it and it seemed to keep a good speed using rechargedable rayovac nickel metal hydirds(AA), is there something better i should use. Also if anyone has some tips about the car if they could please share them, i would greatly appreciate it. And does anyone know if orion is selling the battery packs yet and for how much. Oh...and if i decide to put in the option motor is there anything else i need to change? Im running a Explorer II, and futaba radio gear. THanks ahead for your help!

How long did the Micro run for?

I run a 5 cell 2000Mah NiMh pack...not sure who makes em cuz they were loose cells at my LHS

I run a 5 cell, 700 MaH 1.5v Nicad pack. It doesn't have the capacity of the NiMh cells, but it has much higher voltage, therefore more power. I can get about 10 minutes of runtime with it. We are getting ready to start racing them (once our LHS can get some more) and we are contemplating running 8 minute races. If so, the pack I use will be perfect. Once I get my modified motor, I'm going to try the Orion 5 cell pack.

which esc's do you guys use? im thinking that no matter what esc you have today itll be able to run even the hottest "micro" sized motors correct?

I am going to purchase a Micro today. I was looking at the install instructions on the web an noticed a way to add a 5th cell using the AA/AAA mount. I wanted to see what everyone thought. This is mainly for those people who want more voltage (6v), but are not as skilled in creating battery packs and want to use a standard AA battery and charger.
I would cut the red wire in the middle coming from the battery pack to the connector. Run the red wire up to the top deck and attach it to the extra battery. I am going to find a single AA flashlight caseing to connected the wires to. The only problem I see is trying to get the batteries out because the wires will be wrapped around the deck lid. This will limit how the caseing is attached because you will need to be able to pull it all off.

at our track, we run 8 cell packs. They las tabout 20 minutes, and they propel the motor to incredible speeds.

For the Micro RS4? If so what type of pack (normal 8C)?

Well, the modified motors are 40 to 45 turn motors. While I don't know the actual numbers, I can't imagine that the amp draw will be much. Any decent ESC should do fine. Granted, if you go blasting down a parking lot at full speed with 6 cells or more, you might have problems. But under normal circumstances and using normal battery configurations, you should be fine.

8 cell packs ?!
LOL!
Dude, don't stop there, go for 16 !
I suggest 32 LR44 watch batteries. They should fir just fine and you should really get good lap times!
Ummm....

I have 5 and 6 cell NiMH packs, and my run times aren't the greatest (in my opinion). They are right around 20 mins. or so. Anyways, the car is fast during that time. I presently have a GM ESC (V3R) and it stinks! It seems to need the 6 cell pack to work properly (otherwise you have to go in reverse and then forward in order to get the car moving). The ESC has been setup exactly how the instructions stipulate. I was wondering if adding a capacitor would help. I may install this ESC in my TC3, and use my Novak Atom in the Micro, but then I lose reverse (and gain it in the TC3, where I don't need it). Any suggestions, or should I just sell the ESC and be done with it. And then replace it with the Futaba MC230R ESC.

Ok.. I was looking for 5 cell AA pack and peak charger that I should use for it, but I am not sure what to get. I would like to know what everyone else is using and what is working.
I was thinking about purchasing single AA rechargeables, but it would probably be better to get packs especially if I am going to get a modified engine in the future.

Just think how fast the car would be if he ditched the lexan body and made the body out of batteries!

I wonder how many parts you would break if you ran into something with those 16 batteries.

Though I don't have a micro (yet), it would seem to me that any esc would work fine IF it works ok with 4 cells and doesn't require a seperate reciever pack. Some of the cheaper esc's may not work too well with only 4 cells. I suspect most any sport model esc will work ok with 5 cells, though. I'm speculating a bit here, but I'd say high end LRPs and Novaks (7.1, cyclone, atom,etc...) should work fine with only 4 cells since they are designed to work in 1/12 scale racing without a seperate reciever pack.
With all that said, I plan on running 5 cells regardless of speed control choice. I want that voltage. :D

My Micro is about a week old. I have an Airtronics radio, V6r and use 4 Rayovac 1600 NiMH AA. I use the DTXP4130 DuraTrax IntelliPeak to charge the batteries (The Rayovac charger will take 15hrs to charge the batteries). With this set-up I get over an hour of run time in my house on carpet. I'm going to try 5-cells when my second Micro arrives.
HPI did an excellent job on the design of the Micro.
Here are a couple inexpensive peak chargers from the Nov RCCA.

I have a buddy running six cells with a secret motor (required some mods to the chassis). His car is fast but the front diff can't handle the power. Also, the front drive axles can't handle the power. I have the same motor on order at my LHS.

if you want a faster motor, get the kyosho something 20 motor. or i think you could use a slot car motor. the motor that comes stock is 60 turns, and unless you have a bunch of extra front uni's, or you have the steel ones, i wouldnt recommend a hot motor, since you cant get parts for the micro's yet.
i am currently running the kyosho with the yellow sanyo nicads with red writing (i think 600 or 700mah) anyway i only got to run with the new motor on a almost dumped pack, but it had a good amount of top end, but i should probably of used the smalled pinion not the meduim one.
now i just need to get some softer tires too, lol.

Some parts are available. I picked up two 73404 Servo Arm sets from my lhs today.
I noticed 73404 #7 when I was building the kit was going to be a key weak point. The plastic area is too small to support the screw that holds the inner wheel on.

There are quite a few parts available on the Tower Hobbies website. This also includes a replacement stock motor (for those people who would love to rewind theirs). Most of the other parts are listed for Early October. Guess that means next week.

I've heard a few people say that the stock Micro motor can only run (nominally) 6.0v. When pushed to 7.2V or greater, it shortens the life of the motor. There was a link to the Mabuchi site in regards to the SH-180 motor (think it's something like that, the 180 part is right, but don't know about the letters portion). The RPM is also 7800 rpm. So, I'm running five cells (1100NiMH) and I'm getting good speed and running for 20-25 minutes or so. I'm going to build a 1800 or better (if found) AA NiMH pack (5 Cells) and this should get me good if not great speed and longer run times.... hopefully in the 40+ minute range.
