I am think thinking of geting a parkzone J-3 cub for x-mas. Or should I get a Slow-v RTF electric.

I vote for the J3 Cub. I don't have one but I do have a Slo-V. It served the purpose to learn on but I think its one step above flying a blimp...it is slow. If you have been flying for awhile you would want something a little faster I think. I fly the Begin-Air and Badius most of the time.

Well, I have been flying the Firebird Commander2 about 4 weeks and it is to fast. I dont know if the j-3 cub is slower or faster but I want a slowwwwwww plane. And I have a really small baseball field. And the Slow-V has x-port. So I am thinking about the slow-v

If you feel that the Firebird Commander is too fast for you at this time, DO NOT GET THE CUB OR THE DECATHLON. They both require substantially faster reactions and control than the Firebird Commander. The best logical steps from the Firebird Commander are either the Slow-V or the Aerobird Challenger. The Aerobird Challenger is the closest to the Firebird in the way that it flies, but it is just as fast, and faster, than the Firebird, and has elevator control, which the Firebird does not. The Slow-V has the same controls as the Aerobird, but flies considerably slower than either the Aerobird or your Firebird. Based on your comments that you want a slow plane and that you have a small ball field, get the Slow-V.

Slow-V should be fun and a good fit for baseball-sized flying field.

Don't allow yourself to be pressured and/or rushed into buying a plane that is too advanced for you at this time. The Slow-V should be excellent for you. Take your time and enjoy the plane. Eventually you will want to upgrade, but that will be a long time from now so enjoy flying with 3-channel control. You will find it a lot more fun than the 2-channel Firebird Commander, but after you have flown the Slow-V a number of times, you will actually enjoy going back to the Firebird for a flight or two.

Remember that the Slow-V, just like the Firebird, does not do well with wind. Let us know how you are doing after Christmas.

I am so mad I was going to get a Slow-V for x-mas. The guy at the local hobby shop said it was going to get here last friday. My dad went to the shop today and asked the guy when it was going to get here and the guy said "it backordered" and then my dad said "you said it was going to get here last friday" and the guy said once again "it backordered" and my dad walked out. No wonder most local hobby shops go out of business. so must for customer service. So I am going to order it online. and we had been calling everyday to check on it and they kept saying it'll get here soon. :mad: :mad:

An EasyStar RTF (http://www.wattflyer.com/forums/showpost.php?p=4357&postcount=11) is more durable, has a 72mhz radio, and the servos are compatible with other radio equipment. The Slo-V 27mhz radio frequency is shared with RC surface models, and has proprietary 5-wire servos (http://www.parkzone.com/ProdInfo/PKZ/450/PKZ1130-450.jpg) that are only compatible with the ParkZone ESC/RX (http://www.parkzone.com/ProdInfo/PKZ/450/PKZ1351-450.jpg). Well I cant say anything on the Slow-V as I have not any experience with it.
But it does appear to have all the aspects that a good slow flying plane needs to learn on as do many other of it's "stick" type.

I myself have never been attracted to such planes though, as I believe that good, slow flying, easy handling, easy landing planes dont have to be ugly.
You wont find any such design of aircraft in your local airports flightschool hangar, nor would a CFI ever teach you in such a craft(ok, ok already you can tell im a sitckler for realisim, and scale flight,........I admit it :D )

So, I have to vote for the J-3 Cub (HZ) but I give a definite no go for the Decathalon(HZ)
I have both, and the J3 is my favorite of the two for nice, slow, scale, and easy flying. Take off's are like any taildragger, if you dont stay sharp she'll ground loop on ya. And I spent a few dollars a got a tiny tailwheel and installed it to make this process of take off a bit better, and better yet I think I will go ahead and make it steerable as well.
But heck you may just wish to hand launch, and it does that very well with not much more than a flick of the arm/wrist( isnt it nice not to have to do running throws with these light little beauties? :cool: )

I say no to the Decathalon not because it's a bad plane, it's a really nice one but it's ,......well,.....somewhat badly behaved, and is underpowered a bit for the bulk of it's fuse. It will I think, perform nicely by changing to a better motor, and Li-po battery,..................and I think Im going to try to add ailerons to it. It really needs them to do what a Decathalon should, and with the extra power I think it will. Set up like that, it'd be a crowd pleaser for sure. But the Decathalon design is an aerobatic trainer, and as such is not well suited to novice hands, and this model does it's real world conterpart justice,..........and handles the same way.( heh, actually it flies much more like the Decath's older brother the Citabria, the early ones which were also underpowered like the model.)

But the Cub, it's crowd pleaser right out of the box. And has plentiful power, and flies much better.(Narrower fuse, not so bulky) Everyone where I fly are amazed at how scale it looks, both on the ground and in the air. The foam fuse has a nice, textured covering that looks just like a material I used to cover my planes with back in my "building days" called colortex,...........very nice! You can run you fingernail across it, and hear it. :p
Heh, it's so cute the guys where I fly at say I now have to pay a "Cute tax" to fly it there......... :D

Hehe, well I geuss that's my take, it's a scale buff's outlook. But I've been around alot of fliers, and planes of all types, flying fields, ect. And for me, watching these stick planes flying around is pretty boring after awhile. They have their place, and are good fun planes to fly, and they fly well.
But you let one person show up with a nice scale, or even scale looking bird and watch the atmosphere come alive. And watch the crowd that soon gathers round. :p

So that's my plug, for the good old Cub..........may it live forever. :cool:

I know you're all probably tired of me mentioning my Thunder Tiger Giles 202 EP Profile, but it's stable enough to fly slowly indoors. The wide performance envelope really does make it a terrific choice for pilots with vastly different levels of experience.

Easy building, fun flying, and reasonably priced is a nice combination. It wouldn't hurt to have all reusable radio components, to boot.

I just wanted a slow and cheep yet durable plane that has Xport. And they also said if the Firebird Commander2 was to fast and if I had a small baseball field to get the Slow-V

Well... lets see I can do a flip spiral fly inverted (for 2 seconds) touch and go's more tricke I made up Oh yeah I can do a stall turn. I am now going to get another plane the "parzone Typhoon 3d" It looke SWEET and cool :cool:

In my opinion you're making a mistake if you go for the Typhoon at this time. As I recall you bought the Slow-V because the Firebird was too fast for you. You should get an intermediate plane like the Cub or Decathlon. Then move up to a fast plane like the Stryker or P51. When you can handle one of these really well, then you will be ready for the Typhoon.

I have sent the Firebird commander2 back becuase it was just a fluke but I had been flying it since then and it is sorta on the ssllooww side and I want somthing that is alittle faster and a 4 channel plane. And I want a mid wing plane.
