First post and typical newbie stuff. I have always liked RC cars and trucks. I built my first RC10T when I was a teenager about 15 years ago (I sound old). Then I spent my money on other things and got out of it until I bought a RC10GT Team. I loved building this truck and it was really fast back then (1995). I got rid of it for "other things" and now I want another car or truck. From the looks of it the RC10GT hasn't changed all that much besides the better materials used. I would love to build another. But on the other hand I think maybe I should try something different. Thats were I need help. I know nothing about this hobby anymore. I keep reading about brushless motors and it sounds like that might be the way to go?
I know I want a kit and not some pre built car. I think that takes the fun out of it and am really disappointed to see that is the direction this hobby is going.
So I have it narrowed down to this:
-Nitro or electric (brushless)
-Stadium truck or tour car
-Must be a kit
-Keep it under $600 for now, upgrade later
- I want to reach faster speeds than I am use to. Maybe 50-60mph ;)
-I might race, I need to look into local tracks
Any help to point me in the right direction would be great. All opinions needed!

Ya the GT is still high up there in the ranks. Give it a second thought and see where you stand then. If your up to try something new id say maybe look at a few Team Losi stadium trucks and touring cars. But you can decide that for yourself.

For some reason I am always leaning towards the RC10's. Which Team Losi truck compares best to the RC10 GT factory team?
Recently I was talking to a kid at my local Hobby store and he seemed to think electric is the way to go with the brushless setup. I couldn't talk to him for long because it's like a mad house in there this time of year. any opinions on electric over nitro?

Personally, I hate the winter time as far as RC goes. That means indoor and no nitro :(. I hate dealing with batteries, motors and coms, springs, brushes, etc....all this you'd have to think about with electric. But then as you stated, you are thinking of brushless, so the coms, springs, brushes all that aren't really a concern. I love the sound and smell of nitro...absolutely addicting for me :D ...but the major downside is the mess.I don't mind that though. You sound like your'e more into working on the vehicle almost more than running it. In that case, if you chose nitro, I would consider the HPI Savage kit.

As far as I know, it is the only Monster kit ( not prebuilt) available...unless you count the Jammin X1 CTR. But the rolling chassis alone pushes your budget. The Sav that I linked to runs around $400...you might find it cheaper than Tower...not sure. With this, you get an excellent basher...probably the best of all the MTs out now for bashing. One drawback Ive read about is that it is tough to work on because of the style of chassis. I don't suspect this would be a problem for you though. This also comes with a good engine. Any other kit...MT, TC or what ever style of vehicle, requires you to buy an engine seperate. This allows you roughly $200 to buy a decent FM radio and a high quality steering servo. You can push your budget a little more, and consider (highly recommended) a rechargeable receiver pack and a charger for it. Im not as familiar with onroad offerings...but my best suggestion would be to look at it this way. If you think you will put your vehicle on a track, then look around you, find out what type of tracks are there. Then decide wether on/offroad is your best choice. If you just want to play around a parking lot or park...whereever, then I would suggest staying with an offroad as there will simply be more places available to you. Of course, if you wanted another GT or even a Losi, these will likely keep you well within your budget which is a good thing...but you said you wanted to try something different..so this is my .02...Good Luck which ever way you chose, and keep the forum book marked so you can come back for advice and to share you experiences...there's a lot of great folks to hang out with here :)

Thanks for all the info.
LD3Furious thanks for the detailed help. I will look into the HPI 1/8 Savage SS 4.6 Kit. Wonder how fast it is? lol.. I bet thats a rookie question. I do have this site bookmarked and although I only have 2 posts I have been reading up allot. Once I buy a kit I will have time to learn what components will go good with it as I build it.

If you're thinking about nitro to race one day let me tell you one thing that I didn't think abut when I got a Inferno 777 to try out. You almost have to have a friend at the track to help you race the thing! You must have someone to hold the car and put it on the track for you and to fill up the tank during the main race. This doesn't sound like a big deal until you go to ask people to help and they say "yes" but then when you need them you can't find anyone to do the job. It's really fun when you helped them with their cars the race before and then they are gone after that race after saying they would pay you back for the help by helping with your car! So I found that the plug and go of electric much less of a headache than gas for me. But if you have people to help you out regularly then it wouldn't be a big thing.

Ya good points on the nitro. I checked with my local shop and sounds like electric is really what I need to get if I want to race. I really have not decided if I want to race or bash it and crash it. I guess leaving the option open wouldn't hurt.
So I am now thinking of getting the RC10T4 factory team or the Losi XXX-T MF2. Any thoughts on what you all prefer would be great. I can use all opinions. What is slightly better and why. Weight? Handling? Power potential? thanks..
