well since u are new to electric but have been in nitro i say go with the kit stampede cuz its the best for bashing and pick urself up a nice ESC and a 2400 battery pack thats what i say but if u do go with RTR go with the stampede big truck good for onroad and off and its very durable so u can bash it hard also its great to hop up i'm curenly building a costum one so look for the posts on the MT forum G2G cyassssss

the reason i was looking at the "off road cars is because i could modify them into half and half on and off road
i want a car that i can do that with

Get a rally car! HPI makes a good one and so does Tamiya (TB-01).

If your looking for onroad, why would you be looking at one onroad car and three offroad?

I was going to say hold out for the new Duratrax Evader for an off-roader. I think it's going to be a great package deal. But, you want an on-road, can't help you there, I only play in the dirt........

Definately do the rally thing. I have an RS4 Rally that I have completely trashed, and have yet to break anything ('cept a spur... but I was stoopid). I installed a slipper clutch and the spur gear problem went away. I usually race on large off-road tracks. I picked up a set of on-road sport shocks.. and the car handles quite well. I do have a few hop-ups on it, but in stock form... that rally was great :D
Out of all my cars, this is my fav... and I have quite a few; RS4 Rally, RS4 Mini (converted to MiniMT.... this rocks too), Super Nitro Rally (getting tired of the Nitro thing... but the car rocks!), Tamiya Pajero (Definately a must get realistic basher), and 2 Mini Zs (VERY Cool!).
I've had an RS4 Nitro RTR, and a Super Nitro. They were both nice cars, but the Nitro bugged me (strange that I ended up with a Super Nitro Rally, but I guess it was due to the Rally portion of it).

If i were u, i would get a kit, it will be easier to fix when it breaks (come on R/C stuff is made to break) then u could do anythin to it, i would go for a losi XXX-s rally weapon, or a HPI rs4 rally, maybe even a rs4 pro3  :D Team losi's site (http://www.teamlosi.com)
Hpi's Site (http://www.hpiracing.com)
