I am looking at getting my husband a RC truck for Christmas. I know nothing about the scales that are always listed by the car or truck. So what is the biggest and the smallest, do they match the numbers like the smaller the number the smaller the car? I appreciate any help. TIA

It is a fraction. 1/10 is smaller than 1/8.
What kind of cars is he into?

Also, scale means it's 1/10 (or whatever the fraction)the size of the real one

I wanted to get him an avalance RC truck. He has an avalanche, and loves it. He really wants a RC one though, and a big one. So I was just trying to find the biggest one I could.

1/5 FG, lauterbacher etc are pretty much the biggest cars

The biggest monster truck,i think, is the FG monstertruck or 'Beetle' They are powered by petrol and not fiddly nitro motors

big pockets required for these models though

You're deep into uncharted territory here. You need to coax out of him what his plans are, without giving away what you're trying to do, if this is a christmas present.
If he wants something to play with in the driveway and chase the dog around with, there is (or was) a 1/6th scale Avalanche, made by a company called New Bright.
If you think (or he wants to really get into it) he'll stick with it, then you can find all sorts of hobby-grade trucks, both Ready To Run (RTR) or a kit. With a kit you (or him) will need to buy a radio, batteries and a charger as well. I would guess there's an Avalanche body available, but don't know for sure. A company named Pro-Line makes a Cadillac Escalade EXT body, which would probably be about the closest you'll find.
Sounds to me like he's never driven RC before, so I'd stay away from a nitro or gas car until you or he knows for sure he wants to take on the responsibility. You can't just chuck a Savage or T-Maxx into the garage at the end of the day, then not touch it again for a month and expect it to run the same, if at all, the next time he wants to impress his buddies.

I would go with the Revo. Ofcourse you will have to buy him an avalanche body for it. He will have alot of fun trust me.
