I just wanted to know if it is really necessary to purchase a FM radio? Can I get away with a AM radio racing at a local track with about 20 people? What would be a good bang for the buck AM and FM radio?
Thanks

Yeah you can get away using an AM radio, FM is better in high interference areas and with nitro though.
As far as good AM / FM radios, check out the JR X2 AM and the JR XR3 FM, both are great radios at pretty good prices (99 and 160 respectively)

If you are just farting around with that many guys, an AM is fine, but if your track ever has big races, like mine does, and everyone and their dog is practicing, you are left in your pits glitching.
the XR2 is awesome, if you want AM, go for it.
