they're called "do-it-yourself track dots" :D
grab an old soccer(or volley.whatever) ball and cut some out of it and paint it in bright colors

You can also use, plastic plates painted white so you can see them better. And they're cheap.

Use plastic plates with large washers glued to the underside for some weight.

Road Dome, Tamiya, and Kyosho make track dots. Also plow disks, plates, soda cans, all kinds of stuff have been used. One of the best least expensive solutions we've used just for practice is vinyl floor tile. You can get a whole box relatively inexpensive and it packs back up in a small space.

We use STEEL corner dots at the track here. It's horrible since I run very low ground clearance for best handling and sometimes I smack those dots at full throttle and catch the lip. The car stops and the dot actually moves a few feet. BTW, those dots are 5-10 pounds. Talk about busted expensive XRAY parts...

I've never heard of those steel corner dots, but they sure sound destructive! Yikes! Personally when I'm not at the track I use some very cheapo plastic cones like brickshelf mentioned. Others mentioned cheap plastic plates. These are nice because they can be found at dollar stores and then painted whatever bright color you want. Often the cheapies come in strange flouresent colors anyway ;) I think that the idea of using cheap plates as coner dots was even mentioned in RCCA. Either in this months issue or last months...

We used to use butter cups. Used 2 for oval races for money and the race lasted 5 laps. You had to go around the cups and where ever the cups landed at was the boundary of the track. So if you hit them just right at the right time it was to your advantage. The course constantly changed during the race.

we use road rail at our track. the dots are nice and light
