Hey,

I was wondering what are the advantages of graphite? Because at my lhs the replacement parts are graphite so i was wondering if its better.

Thanks :)

Ithink, its stronger and lighter than regular plastics.

It is lighter, but usaually a little weaker. Tends to flex less, great for racing, but with less flexx comes, easier to break. If your racing and need to reduce weight Graphite is the way to go. If your racing and still need durablity plastic is the way to go IMO!

I've always been told that graphite is more brittle and will snap easier; but in my own case it seems to be stronger. I have a Team T4 (plastic) and an MF2 and the MF2 seems to break less than the T4. JMO.

Graphite is lightweight and good for racing on some parts. But, it is less strong and more brittle. It doesn't flex very well. I would suggest just going with plastic because the weight difference is very small.

Actually, you're exactly right. Graphite filled parts are a bit lighter & are actually stronger than regular plastics, however they are also more brittle(so when they reach their breaking point they will tend to shatter, but that's what they're designed for, they're not MEANT to flex, so if you hit things alot then they may not be worth it). But the abuse they can take before they reach the breaking point is higher than regular plastics....

You have to also remember that metal bends and dents. Anything is breakable, just depends on the impact. CF is lighter than aluminum parts and is known to be stronger. That is why CF is more for racing.

I'll chime in on this too- graphite is stiffer, lighter and in essence stronger. but with stiffness, they can break easier because there is less "bounce back" or "rebound" when you hit an object. Boiling them might give them a bit more, but I'd also suspect it would add a small amount of weight to it
