In general, how really accurate are temp guns?
Anyone have any experience and thoughts of the Duratrax temp gun?

Its from +4 - -4 degrese.

I have the duratrax one and it works great.

I have ran the Raytek, OFNA PCR one, and Duratrax one. All of them have varied anywhere from 10-30 degrees to an Exergen Temp gun...which seems to be the standard.

Most people at my track use the duratrax one because its cheap. Personally I use a Raytek. Other guys have even nicer ones; yet my Raytek seems to be very consistent with the nicer ones. The Duratrax seem to be kind of "hit or miss". I've borrowed a couple here and there and sometimes they're real close to my gun, but once in a while you'll get one thats 15-30 degrees off. For example; this one newb (with a duratrax gun) at the track put a Sirio .23 in his Revo. All he could do was brag about how fast it is and how it never gets above 180* no matter how much he leaned it out. After he ran it for a couple of mins I went over and temped it with MY gun.....280* degree's. I feel that this is one of those area's where you should save up a bit to get the atleast the Raytek; you can find them for around $70 (possibly even cheaper).

well as long as you dont pull the temp gun away to quick, they are usually pretty darn accurate.

Boil some water and right as it starts to boil, temp it. It should be around 212 degrees, (the temp water boils at)

What about emissivity levels? The selected level can have a major impact on the degree of accuracy on the measured surface. At what level are your temp guns emissivity levels set at?

I set the emissivity to what the manual reccomended for my D-trax Flashpoint, but the temps seemed a bit high. I e-mailed Duratrax and they said that it's fine just to leave it at the settings it came with. Sure enough, I compared it to my buddies raytec and there was a 2-4F difference.
