it depends on what you are looking for in R/C, some people like the better runtime and lower maintanence associated with stock motors, others just want the power. :)
I think anyone starting in racing needs to run stock motors VERY heavily, its a great way to understand that driving wins races not neccessarily the amount of rip you've got :)

the main reasons i mainly race stock class are....
1. most off-road tracks can't really use more power than a good stocker puts out...
2. longer run times with stockers..
3. stockers don't have to be rebuilt as often...
mods sure are fun to drive.. but they require much more skill... and the faster you go, the more parts you break... LOL... and with mods you get going wayyyyy fast nearly instantly....
peace out... :)

I play and race with high turn mod motors. Such as the 19 turn Gems series motor. It's 10 bucks cheaper, puts out slightly more power, lasts forever, has killer run time, is overgearing tolerant, and is easy on brushes.
I have not actually purchased a stock motor in over 5 years. They are a HORRIBLE investment unless you are required to have one to race. And then it is just price gouging.
For those who try and use the argument that I have no idea how much it costs to run a business, buy magnets, wind arms, blah blah blah: Why are some mod motors CHEAPER than stock motors then ?

I'm not much of a stocker but i occasionally run a decent stock motor... why? well sometimes i just wanna enjoy the extended run times with my car... but then again seeing my car exceed warp speed is cool  but really, it's all fun and good :p
The stock class where I race is far more competitive and based on driver's skill and car setup than the mod classes. I don't want to get sucked into a battery/motor war where the guy with the most money wins.

The run time. And, like with the P2K and the Green Machine, and some others, we can still get plenty of power. There are literally dozins of postings about how faast and strong these two stockers are. Keep on R/C'n.

a p-2-k off a 3000 pack is good for nearly 10 minutes at full race speeds..... :)

I think it has little to do with run time or price. With a good 2400 or 3000 battery, you would have to be doing something wrong if you can't get 5 minutes runtime from ANY motor. And the prices between stock and mod motors really isn't all that great. Maybe $20?
I think it comes down to what kind of racing you prefer. When racing stocks with experienced drivers, it is ALL ABOUT THE DRIVING. Most good drivers have the best stock motors and have their cars dialed in. So the ones who win are the best drivers.
Mod cars are about the driver AND the motor/battery setup. -Sometimes- the best driver won't win, -sometimes- the guy with the hottest motor wins (if he can somehow complete the race without needing turn marshals).
It's very much like auto racing. NASCAR (stock) is -mostly- about the driver. IRL/CART (mod) is -mostly- about the car.

Because modified half to be built like after every two runs. and stock half to be rebuilt after like 8 runs

every 2 runs? c'mon. i have mods and stocks. 2 of my mods are 3-4 years old and i have never had to rebuild them. but i think it is time for the comm on the d4 to be trued. if you break them in right and take care of them, you shouldnt have to do much rebuilding. mine have lasted ALOT of runs.
