I went to a LHS today to get some parts, and I saw something greying behind the counter. Some closer inspection and $30 later I drove home with a never-driven Robbe Land Rover Discovery. Most body accessories are missing and the paint job is worse than... well, anything I've ever seen, but it is dual solid axle and has massive potential! Ignore the electronics, I just threw them on for a test drive but it turns out I didn't have one charged pack.

Thanks,

Pretty harsh comment if you didn't know what you were talking about and had to ask! Show some respect for the guy..... What can you get for $30 dollars these days? Look at that thing! I think it's a GREAT deal!

$30 is an awesome deal. These things seem to go for a lot on ebay. Last thing I bought that was around $30 was a swaybar :D

But why the 56k no no thing?

That is one sweet rc with huge potential...I love the suspension and chassis setup, totally old school. Looks like it'd be easy to jack it up with some bigger shocks and longer tie-rods, and of course some nice meaters :D Good find!

No need to be a jack-A__, why don't you enlighten me! Are these collectable? Like I said, looks to "ME" to be a wast... How am I being disrespectful? Because I don't see it.. Explain it to me...

Ok, so the guy bought something that he was really happy with and the first thing you say is it looks like a waste of money as if it wasn't worth anything like you know better, but you don't. Then you go on and ask if it was worth something. Like you can't ask if it was a collectable with some value before making an assumption. I'm just saying show a little more respect for the guy... jack-A__??? Look at all the positive comments in the thread! Didn't think I was the only one!

cola: I live in Cyprus. Robbe is german and my LHS loves everything that comes out of Bavaria. It's the first time I've seen one of these too!
ALJR: I already have two 1/8 buggies, two electric touring cars one BL one 10t, an electric rally and a .21 T-Maxx, so I thought I'd try something different. One complete axle of this costs over 80 euros new. Plus it's extremely rare and over 15 years old. My guess is that it's worth a tad over $30
tec41: Those were my first thoughts too. As soon as I flipped it over and looked at those axles visions of a mini-clod came to me! I'm having second thoughts now though...It's a whole lot of fun just because it's so slow and has such horrible handling! You really,REALLY appreciate oil shocks after you drive an r/c that doesn't have any damping! Decent stock articulation though

adrcracing: I had 56k for a long time and I know how painful it is to load a page full of pictures. However, now I HAVE HI SPEED INTERNET EVERYONE :D

Your PICS where done loading long before I was done reading this thread. Anyway, that truck is cool looking, and I would customize it into a rock crawler or something.

Thats all I was after..
Racer234.. Tell me about it... Every one takes things so d@mn serious... Seems if you don't think, comment, dress a certain was, your labled a trouble-maker or some thing..
adrcracing: I had 56k for a long time and I know how painful it is to load a page full of pictures. However, now I HAVE HI SPEED INTERNET EVERYONEI never had any trouble loading pix inless thay where way to big to begain with.Your took about 10-15 sec.or less.BUT please forget about the mini clod ideal.Think armored car,6X6 with another axle anything but a mini clod LOL

ALJR, it's not about serious. It's about how you blew off your wad without a clue about what you're talking about. And what bugs people most is that someone naive actually might believe you.
For example, here's a Robbe that's going for $800 (http://cgi.ebay.com/Tamiya-Robbe-Jeep-Bruiser-1-10-scale-Land-Rover_W0QQitemZ6014641199QQcategoryZ49213QQrdZ1QQc mdZViewItem). As it says in the listing, Robbe tried to Rival Tamiya, the leader in scale model RC reproductions, and failed. Anything by them during that time is a collectible simply because they're no longer making them.
Is it just me, or does this look exactly like your model? WOO HOO! :D If it is, you may be onto something far more than just a few bucks more than $30!
Karadjas, shelf that baby and don't let any mosture get to it, it may contribute to your kids' college fund someday. :D
RC isn't always about racing, bashing, and bragging rights - one has to remember that the radio controlled hobby has it's roots in modeling. As such, there's a whole different aspect to RC than many people here never even dabble in.

No bids, so $800.00 don't meant jack unless someone bids.

Awesome find! That's gotta be one of the coolest r/c's I've ever seen. Hope you have a blast with that thing, I know I would!

$800??!? I knew it was worth something ("a tad" was a bit ironic), but not $800!
I'm shelving it until the auction ends. If it gets bid on, mine is going to live the next 3-5 years of its life in a safe. It will only see daylight when I'll need a new house :D

all this gentleman wanted to do was to show his find and be proud of it and for the 56k warning yes i have dsl so the pics where loaded before i even got done reading the first post ,he was being nice to forewarn ppl using dial-up for the amount of pics, dont think it was out of line in his warning ,so no sense in being rude to someone ,like my parents always told me if you have nothing nice to say dont say it !

No, fools bid on overpriced stuff all the time on ebay, even if someone bid on it **that** doesn't make it worth $800. :D
The ebay link was just for example only - point being, if you don't know, a two minute look around the 'net from various sources can give you a **general** idea of what something's worth.
Karadjas, if you are really interested google for "online appraisal" or "online appraiser" and see if you can find one you feel comfortable with. They all charge a fee, and it's not much, but if I found a Robbe in that condition and only had $30 into it - it would be worth the extra $10 or $20 to have an actual appraiser look at it for me.

That's cool, I would have snatched that up in a heartbeat for $30!

Neat find. I would have bought it for nostalgias sake alone. I mean, $30 for a zip-zap piece of **ap or for a piece of RC history. Hmm, Robbe all the way! Enjoy!

that looks like a nice rock crawler. do u plan aon puttinh longer links

Yes it was. But.Its not what he said about the 56k it is how he said it.I have never had any trouble with pix inless thay where to big and unclear to start with.He did a fine job with his pix not overly large and nice and clear. Now as for the "don't say anything if it is not nice"for a child that is ok(sorta)but in the realy real world poo poo happens.Heck the 30 buck Robbi guy did not take "O" fince about what I said.Because it was not rude. :p

Karadjas, awesome find!! I'd shelf it until a nice day at the races. While everyone else is racing, pull off to the side and run it and see what kind of attention you get. That proves it's value to you. It doesn't matter what value Ebay places on it, it's the value you place on it that makes it a worthy treasure.
Speaking of Ebay, look into it for accessories and the original body kit just to bring it back to pristine goodness. It'd be a fun project to bring this back and do it justice. Plus, in a couple of years, it would be a great contribution to your kids' college fund. ;)
.... What can you get for $30 dollars these days? Look at that thing! I think it's a GREAT deal!
$30 bucks? I CAN'T FILL MY TANK FOR THAT!!!! (Real car that is!)
I picked up a brand new Himoto car for only twice that. I think that maybe the ONLY thing left for $60 bucks. Heck, even a month of Starbucks Coffee costs more than $30.
Good score on the old school truck! Keep us posted as your RETRO-RIDE develops!

I took the Land Rover rock-crawling(well, pebble-and-stick-crawling) yesterday. It is absolutely the most realistically realistic action I've ever had with any r/c.
The lack of damping and weak springs help it get so realistic. I went WOT at one point, a tire almost came off the rim, the inner body got unclipped and a "shock" stayed stuck mid-travel - and that was onroad!
A friend of mine took some pictures, I'll make sure I get hold of them asap.
Oh yeah, 2000MaH, a zillion turn motor and 10-25% throttle make for some runtime! I got over 2 1/2 hours of crawling and trying for that perfect pose out of one battery pack.
It sure is a refreshing change from BL 1/10, 1/8 buggy and rally game racing!
