Awesome, what a cool idea, a 1:1 sized, tracked RC! That must have taken some doing!

I found out more that it can be gps guided also, i think they will be trying to sell it to the army.
It is a DARPA project with a 2 million prize for the winner.

That would be my guess, that's why they don't offer any detail on their site too. Could be some big bucks if anything of theirs gets even prototype acceptance from one of the armed services or DOD.
For those that don't know - DARPA - Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency. DARPA is where leading edge tech meets the road.

DARPA is some pretty wild stuff. Now they just need to make it autonomous...

The DARPA info is on the site, look at the other videos. They are using an rc chassis and shocks as a dampening platform for the computer hard drive.

You folks need to read up on the grand challenge. All those vehicles can be radio controled, but the goal of the project is autonomous operation. Runaways? Yea. That's why they hold it in the middle of the desert....

Ummm...I have...off the DARPA Grand Challenge web page...http://www.darpa.org/
"The DARPA Grand Challenge is one of robots racing through a desert course autonomously. Groups compete against each other to create the best autonomous robot that will make it through the desert course avoiding all obsticles and following DARPA's pre-set rules. The winner will take home the $2 million prize. The contestants are not allowed to control or send signals to the robots once the race starts. They must complete the track on their own."

I bet they won't break a control arm if they hit that power pole.

Well the point of the project is to develope an autonomous 1/1 scale vehicle for military use. However, I think there was a post by a guy quite a while ago who built a autonomous 1/10 vehicle out of an original RC10 buggy. Pretty cool stuff.
