I just got a comm lathe and a bunch of pairs of brushes and springs, so i can make all my motors like new again. I need to know how to make them last along time. My p2k that i had to get to run in the novice class only lasted about 10 batts. (most of my motors last at least 5 months it seems like. Probably lots longer then that if i figure out when i bought em.) Anyway, how can i make my motors last longer?

brushed electric motors just don't last a long time.... at least not the high performance models...
you can get maximum life from them by...
1. make sure they don't get overheated by overgearing, or via binding on the drivetrain ect....
2. breaking them in properly
3. keeping them clean with motor spray...
4. the armature will last longer overall if you turn your arm more frequently (so you don't have to make so many passes once you get around to it)
5. if you race in a "clean" environment (indoors, with not much dirt or dust) you may want to consider the use comm drops...
i find that my P-2-K's run at full tilt for around 8-10 packs, then they start dropping off a bit... most mods are only good for much less than this...
peace out... :)

Agreed.
Your welcome. That took a few minutes, you understand ?
Howie helped you out quite a bit there and you did not even thank him
If 20 other people jumped off a bridge would you jump too ?

I'm tired of your self-righteous attitude, Jeepinator. Give everyone a break. Thanks.

TC3 Benjammin,
I just did a search on your member # to see why we have some how collided.
There are 2 threads that we both posted on recently. Here is one: http://www.rccaraction.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=2&t=003192
If you think that spending 30 minutes of my time trying to explain something to you is self rightous, you can shove it where the sun don't shine ... and rotate it.
YOU, my friend, have the problem.

if 20 other people can post the same topic then so can i.....
well if there have been 20 topics on this same subject then why ask the same question again?? do a search and read every topic and if your question still isnt answered, then make a new thread.

I whole-heartedly appreciate your time and effort on helping me out. You answered my question - and then some. Thank you.
What I don't like is how you demean people and make comments like everyone OWES you something for your "brilliance". When someone doesn't reply in a timely manner to your post, don't be offended and make a smart comment, that's all. Hope this clears things up.

I suppose there is some truth in your observation. While you make it sound like a negative thing, I would definately feel indebted to someone, regardless of their attitude, if they spent a lot of time to explain something to me so thoroughly.
My intentions are not to belittle anyone. But, I suppose I do expect some sort of appreciation. Maybe this concept is a little silly on an Internet forum where none of know each other ... I am just applying real life interactions to this virtual world. Maybe that is my flaw. And yes, I was a bit impatient. I was darn proud of that post, so that had something to do with it :p
Regardless, you have made an attempt to fix our differences and that is honerable. Thank you.
Have a great weekend !

Joe- Try using differnt combinations of bruses and springs. What surface will you run the motors on?
I think everyone wants appreciation(including jeep)
