Hi all

I have a 'Pro-Peak EX' fast charger and a 6 cell GP3300 pack.
The charger has a dial to set from 0.5 - 5amp and a start button.

My battery pack used to get nice and warm after a charge, but now, it remains pretty cool. It still seems to charge the pack as I can go for a run, but runtime is like 5min... ridiculous.

What am I doing wrong? How should I charge this pack with this charger, and at what amperage? Should I ever do a slow charge?

The pack has been charged about 15-20 times now.

Help please!

What were you charging the battery at? I also found that the first or second charge of a new pack of GP 3300s (stick pack), it gets hot during charging, but after those initial charges, it stays nice and temperate (gets a little warm, but a comfortable warm). Maybe you need to adjust the charge rate or your charger is false peaking on you?

Was charging them at 3amp. Not sure if they're false peaking? How do i make sure? what amps must I try?

At 3A it takes slightly more than 1 hour to fully charge your drained pack. You can increase the peak sensitivity if your charger has an adjustable one.

I would at least charge them at 5 amps. 3amps might be enough of a charge rate to "warm" up the cells. I have not charged a race pack below 5 amps in a couple years so this is just a guess. They should get a little warm when they peak regardless of the charge rate.

Be sure the pack is discharged - for stick packs try investing in a pack equalizer it's well the expense to keep packs working for a long time. Pack can false peak if cells get to a point they are discharge to different voltage levels which may be the cause for short charging and short runtime.
For bashing a 4.5 to 5amp charge rate is good, with either a .03 to .05 mv voltage detect setting.

4.5 amps at 0.5mv. Be sure to fully discharge your packs before recharging.

Or invest in a Digital peak charger (e.g. Duratrax Piranna Digital or a MRC 959). You will need a 12 volt power supply to get em up to full charging amp ability (5.0 amps) but both have customizable profiles and digital displays that will show detailed info on your charge (mah , voltage, etc.)
